cutter has the same size as the bearing, which is 1/2 inch
My recommended bit for mortising is a Dado cleaning router bit which leaves a nice flat bottom in your mortise. It is nearly identical to the bit down, but with an approximate size cut of 3/8".
As long as you use a template to guide the process, it will work well. However, if you try to use it freehand, you will need to use your chisel to clean up the edges or you will have visible overcuts if you are not skilled.

". After I bought the new bit, I hit a nail when I was mortising the first hole. When I checked the carbide, there were no chips, so I continued to go with it. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. Thanks for taking the time to let me know! The majority of Chinese carbide chips are produced by looking at them in the wrong way. The CMT bits I buy in the future will be more than enough.
I bought this as a replacement for a hinge jig bit that came with the Immediately after cutting it, that bit started to burn wood. Using this bit was like butter cutting through the wood. When I need this brand again, I will buy it again. As of yet, we cannot rate its durability and longevity, but we are expecting it to be very good.
The bit cuts cleanly and fast, making it one of the best router bits I've It cuts smoothly and cleanly even on hardwood, thus eliminating the possibility of burn marks on Moreover, it does not mar the edges of your router jig template like other bits I have used in the past.
The quality of the product is excellent.
I had to install several mortise locks that were unusually sized, and the templates this bit provided enabled a simple and professional installation process.
I have used CMT bits for years without having a problem. I used this one to mount door hinges, and it took my time a lot easier than using hammer and chisel, ensuring that the depth of the hole was accurate from the beginning.
