Questions & Answers
I have used these since they were first introduced, and they have been good so far.
Drills used for cutting steps are designed to cut metal no thicker than that of the steps themselves. Nevertheless, they sometimes leave a little slag around the edge of the hole that needs to be removed. They are fast and efficient while still allowing for an accurate hole to be made. Those bits in thinner materials tend not to wander as much as a regular one because the steps are acting as a pilot all the time.
Sheet metal is what I mostly use them for. You can use them to make very neat holes instead of normal drill bits which tend to shred sheet metal. Plexiglas and other objects of a similar nature are also said to work well.

As a result of adding a receiver hitch to my lawn tractor, I had to drill 4 bolt holes into the rear frame plate. In addition to the center punch, I used a medium sized step bit after 1/8" HSS drill bits were used for each hole. My drilling was enhanced by the addition of some machine oil. It's safe to say that these bits are reasonably sharp and didn't dull while doing the job. Set of bits came in a cardboard box (which was sort of cheesy). If you're only going to use this occasionally, I recommend it They might not last that long if you use them almost every single day For the price, it's actually hard to go wrong. It may be worth about twice the cost of a single bit, but it's a good value.
It is common for Harbor Freight bits to break or break less often than they cost, so you are When I came across this product, I wasn't sure if I should buy it as it is so cheap, and anything "cheap" is almost always I can tell you that the price isn't what you pay! You receive a lot more! I just bought one big bit for $40 at Home Depot, and the quality is as good as one that is cheaper! I bought the whole set for around $30 and couldn't be happier with it! Buying is a good idea.
A good step drill bit set has been on my list for quite some time now, and these fit the bill! The scissors cut sheet metal and acrylic glass without a problem for a project I was working on. There was no tear out in the holes when they finished the job. A little package even comes with them, which is a nice touch. The truth is they are easy to organize, but it is so frustrating to catch them not doing it.
Each step bit is encased in a nylon pouch and comes with a spring-loaded cable This punch has a loaded center. By using the center punch, the bits will start at the right place Tool that can be invaluable. Tools themselves should be unremarkable - this is especially true of bits - The arm rest is sturdy, functional, and does not cause any concerns while being used. Despite the thickness of the steel, I have mounted hardware on steel up to 3/8" thick without any problem.
However, I was a bit nervous about using my drill for fear of cracking those existing holes. This was the first time I had tried these, and they were fantastic! I was able to easily widen the mounting holes without any damage or cracking or chipping of Thank you for your help.
This is a really nice step bit set, and the automatic punch and case are great additions. Those who have ever had a bit skate out of a hole are likely to find the punch alone to be worth the price of this kit, and you can also adjust the force of the automatic punch. As a result, I am very satisfied with my purchase. The case is well constructed, and holds everything together well.
In addition to cutting holes in 1/4" aluminum and 1/2" acrylic, I also used them to extrude four pieces of 2" aluminum sheet. There is a hole punch included that is well-made and very strong. Excellent purchase. Very happy with it.
