Questions & Answers

If straight epoxy costs less than half, what makes this so expensive? Is it because of the thinning agent, or is it just an inflated price?

As a result of the owner of Smith & Co. The Company. His reputation from the past still haunts him, and he is being greedy. One of the few differences between this epoxy and other penetrating epoxy brands is that this epoxy comes pre-applied It is made water-soluble by mixing it with solvents The skin is thin and super-thin It is penetrated. There is no other brand that does not contain epoxy resin. It means you get more epoxy for less money by using a hardener! Any of these can be mixed with paint store solvent and you will come out with something comparable for, like, 1/2 to 1/3 the price. As a solvent, Smith used to use an exotic, floral-smelling mix of esters prior to 2008. In addition to being impossible to duplicate, the solvent had ideal volatility characteristics, and it had excellent performance characteristics. A year later, when he was facing bankruptcy because of the 2008 crash, he switched to very cheap, acrid alternatives I could smell the solvent blend, but it didn't work as well as I expected. Perhaps if I was certain that the "original" in the page title means he went back to the old solvents, I might be tempted to use it again - There were no words to describe how amazing it was- It seems like he is too much of a con artist, hence my distrust. The company claims that CPES uses epoxy resins that are derived from wood itself, so it works better. In this case, the seller is simply recycling Smith's own line of bunkum. Thus, I shall simply continue to do what I have been doing since he ruined all this By purchasing Abatron LiquidWood or RTG Wood Rot Repair, and by mixing it 60/40 with the methyl-adipic acid found at paint stores The ethyl ketone is what gives it its name This product is 90% as effective, and it costs less per volume than twice as much.

On plywood of 3/8" thickness, how long will it take to cure this product?

In addition to the type of wood it is applied to, two other factors impact the cure time. Below is a list of them a) The present temperature at which it is 2) whether you are using the cool weather or warm weather formulas. On the back of the can, you'll see a table with a thermometer that illustrates the relative cure times for each formula at different A full cure for a warm weather formula will take four days at 68*F, and a full cure for a cold weather formula takes two days at the same temperature. Our product page needs to show a picture of that. It is important to remember that the solvents will usually have evaporated by the time half of the cure time has been reached, so it is possible to overcoat the sealer at this And one more thing - plywood is available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses. Ensure that you fully saturate the ends as plywood is most susceptible to damage at the ends. There is Tony Powell and there is Timbercraft

Is it applied in any way?

As long as it doesn't soak in after a few minutes, you mix the two parts in an equal amount and brush it over the wood until it stops soaking in. If the solvent smell has gone after a day or two, you can start on your first coat of varnish, or if the filler is needed, it can go on next. The can has instructions on it. I will be glad to answer any further questions you might have. There is Tony Powell and there is Timbercraft

Can this product be described as having a yellowish color, or as being clear and transparent with no color at all. ?

That's about all I need to say. A yellowish color is not appropriate

You have some good stuff here
5/5

A new transom for an aluminum boat required this product be sealed to prevent the wood from rotting. I like how easy it is to work with him. Three coats resulted in it remaining on the surface, which indicates the wood has been The spar varnish is finished with three coats of Marine Poly. The formula worked fine in temperatures between 75 F and 45 F during the day and overnight, in weather that ranged from 75 F to 45 F. This cured well it was a little faster than we expected, however plenty of time was allowed for coating to achieve good results.

It is ideal for use on clear surfaces that are exposed to the elements or for repair work
5/5

A pair of Adirondack chairs made from Cypress have two coats of paint on them. The early coats of Epifanes sealed the wood for subsequent coats of Smith's. A relatively low viscosity sealer goes on easily (low to low viscosity) and is easy While it is relatively low in VOC, it does have a relatively high level. As well, it took three weeks to complete A total of four coats are required for sealing the ends- There will be a little grain, but that's expected since epoxy has to fill in the spaces between grains. Having read the product's claim about being used as a substrate for wood repair, I can see how it can fulfill that claim. If you're using epoxy putty under it, it would be a good option.

I would recommend this product to others
5/5

According to the advertisements, the product worked well. The product was used by me to cover a wooden sill plate in a garage that was repeatedly soaked by wind, so I could use it in the garage again The air is filled with blowing In order to remove the sill plate covering, I removed the portion of the wall covering it, dried it out, and then applied epoxy to it. The product soaked right into the skin. It was my 2nd time buying it The product is quart size, and I was able to apply four coats of it on about 40 feet of 2x4 sill plate. It was only applied to the top and one side, and I hoped I was putting enough excess on the sill plate so that it could run underneath and behind. The wall might still be standing ten years from now, and I'll know I did a good job from then on. The brush I used was a cheap disposable model, which I found to be great for the product.

Boats benefit from having this sealant on hand
5/5

This is a great product, however the fumes are strong. Be sure to apply in well-draining areas If you need to use a respirator, you need to find ventilated areas. For my sailboat, I used it to replace the rotted backboards of the port and starboard settees. He also used it to repair holes in his floorboards. After finishing them with an epoxy primer, I applied a polyurethane marine paint in a single component.

Stabilizing and reinforcing rotted or damaged wood is achieved using the use of this product
5/5

Stabilizing and reinforcing rotted or damaged wood is achieved using the use of this product. It has a lot of uses, but I used it to stabilize a rotten rim joist that couldn't be removed or replaced. After the epoxy cured, I was able to soak the rotten wood in it and after it dried the wood became waterproof and much harder to I was then able to improve the flashing metals to prevent further.

Excellent in every way
5/5

Makes a great primer because it penetrates and seals. My antique wooden boat dates back to the late 1800s. My solution was to sand all of the old paint off, seal the wood with Smith's, and then seal the rest. It has been five years since then. Over the last five years, I haven't had to do very much with the bottom paint. The hull is in great shape, and the paint adhered well to it. However, for purposes of breathability, I wouldn't seal the inside as well, but it did work great on the outside.

I like how it infiltrated into the teak
4/5

After three coats, the base had a nice sheen. In this case, the product does exactly what is described. I like how it infiltrated into the teak. After three coats, the base had a nice sheen. You have to pour from the cap to measure, so measuring is a little tricky. It may help to have pumps or a spout that allows you to pour.
