As soon as the mortar was heated, it turned white
3/5

The glass door seal was purchased to seal around the enclosure of the fireplace glass doors. Black mortar was applied to the housing and black was the color of the mortar when it was It is not the same color as the housing because the mortar became white over time. A great deal of disappointment has been experienced.

I recommend this product for sealing segmented indoor chimneys
5/5

As far as my purpose is concerned, this is perfect. One of the nice things about my basement is that it has a woodstove This chimney has segmented sections that allow air to enter, causing creosote to form, or in the summer, if the sections reverse, it causes the smoke to escape. When I put it back together, I spread this stuff on each section after I'd taken it apart and cleaned it thoroughly. If you have any excess, wipe it off with your fingers as you go, or keep a bunch of wet paper towels or rags available. Probably 15 to 20 minutes later I would say it was hard enough to burn. After that, I just lit a fire to finish the job. There is no smoke smell in the house As a result, there is less air leakage, so the draft is stronger. Within a couple of days of having fires, the excess would either crack and fall to the ground or I would wipe it off but the stuff in the joints would stay in place. It's not the prettiest up close, but when you're not standing right next to it you don't notice it too much. Upon drying, the charcoal gray turns into an almost black color. I could have gotten this messy a lot less messy if I had gone slower. As you can see, it looks brighter in the picture than it is in real life. If you decide to do that later, you can paint it with grill paint. I give grey fire smoo a five-star rating and two thumbs up, and would play with them.

Worked well, but it was a bit messy to deal with! In the summer of 2017, I bought a 37 year old house with a damaged fireplace
4/5

After receiving a quote from the provider who cleaned my flue, I learned that it will cost around $200 for me to repair the cracks. It was easy to repair since I bought 2 containers of the DAP mortar As it turns out, only one container was needed, which has gone beyond what I had Working with a tube of caulk is pretty much the same as working with any other tube. Several of the cracks were fairly narrow, so I clipped only a small amount of the ends off to allow me to fill in those narrow spaces. As you can imagine, I do not have much experience applying caulk, so it was rather messy. In less than three hours it had dried, and I had started a low-burning After application of the mortar, 2 small logs) will be ready in 2 hours. Black is the color of the mortar, and from what I can tell, the color does not It appears that some people might not approve of the color of the fireplace because we plan to paint the inside black, but other people might object to the color. There are several before and after pictures below, showing the cracks before the repair and the black mortar after it has been repaired.

A gap between the brick and the fireplace insert (from smoke When we purchased the house, we had an insert that wasn't properly sealed
5/5

As a result of the gaps created by the bricks on the sides of the fireplace insert, we began noticing smoke damage. The big box hardware stores were all without the answer. I did lots of research and even went to all the big box hardware stores. It appears that I was the only person who had ever faced this problem since no one could suggest It was combined with MEECO's RED DEVIL 1105 Fireplace Insert Insulation that I took a risk on. The fires we burn are very hot, so I needed a top that would not catch on fire or melt. Despite this being not "rated" for anything above a few hundred degrees Fahrenheit, I took a chance on it. Sealing all the seams and edges of the fireplace using this product was my first step. I had to use two different applications for it to work. After the first adhesive adhesion, the fabric shrinks, so I had to sew a second seam to fully seal all the I burn my fire once more and it is holding strong (upwards of 500 degrees) because my chimney bricks do not need to be painted. The brick is fresh with a coat of paint!.

Within about a week, it began to turn gray
3/5

My goal was to fix a crack in black mortar with this product. Sadly, my black smokeless fireplace in my living room became gray after years of use. This product had been rated for use near a fireplace, but it has turned gray over time. It looks terrible now that I've fixed it. You might be able to do that if you are repairing gray mortar, but the use case I had was not that.

The product works, but the black color doesn't remain after heating
3/5

This was updated Many coats of black paint have been applied over gray, but it is still gray and has white flakes and cracks! I wasn't even aware that could happen, but some way my paint was rejected by the paste. Original

This program is easy to use and works as it is supposed to. The paste is black when it is raw, but when it is heated it turns dark grey. As the rest of the black surface is also black, I had to repaint it black as well. Additionally, there are white 'flakes' as you can see in the picture but this is due to them being along the edges of the mortar (see picture). It seems strange.

There is a sealed gas pipe entering the fireplace
5/5

Since it's 100% vented and has a full chimney, my Heatilator fireplace was originally set up for a wood or gas fire. Although sparks can leave the fireplace through an open pipe, the gas pipe entering the fireplace had too much of a gap around it, so it needed to be sealed to prevent flames from reaching combustibles inside. With a caulking gun and DAP's product, you could easily pump the caulk into a small, open area and seal it immediately. A professional appearance can be created by shaping and smoothing this material. After a few minutes, it became dry to the touch. In order to provide heat, I rapidly used a hairdryer to harden the product and then ignited a fire to cure it. The product seems hard as a rock now Using silicone sealant in fire boxes and chimneys is an excellent way to seal areas of concern.

Due to the age of the fireplace and the need for gaps, the recommendation was a good one
5/5

The seller of this fireplace glass insert screen recommended it to me when I purchased it. In the fireplace, the bricks had separated and there were gaps that needed to be filled in where the mortar came out between the bricks. Also, this is good for filling in gaps where the mortar came out between the brick. Although I originally bought one tube of this, I ended up buying a second one later after finding that my fireplace needed more gaps filled than I originally intended. My caulking was hidden by spraying black fire rated spray paint on the inside of the fireplace after I applied two tubes of this and applied the caulking, too. In order to use spray paint in your fireplace, be sure it is fire-rated.
