Prior to my review, let me give you a little background. My background is in design engineering, and I also design toys in my free time. When I am created accurate parts to fit existing toys, I usually photograph the original, then I make a copy of it and sculpt over it with two part epoxy putty. I then work the sculpt off of It is sometimes necessary to break the part off in order to get the new sculpt because the putty would fuse with it. When I want to have a technical part made, I design it in Cad, then I resin print it out and then I test fit it against Making tiny tweaks to the part is a lot of back and forth with this approach. It can take a while to get the part to fit how I want it to. Next, let's review what we've learned My goal was to scan an original figure with this scanner, and this scanner was able to pick up a lot of detail, so I was expecting to get a low resolution scan, but I was able to scan the figure in five While that may seem overkill, I believe it is necessary. It was still necessary to place some areas in a way that would allow me to scan undercut areas. Although I was able to get a quality scan that is accurate to the original and importable into my modeling program, my challenge was how to get it done. So I have scanned several different objects at different sizes, shapes, and colors, and this is what I have found after all those scans
Pros Low cost and easy to assemble. Produces high density, watertight meshes on-site, so there's no need to send meshes to a mesh mixer. Easy to operate. Small footprint. Cheaper than other 3D scanners on the market. White and black objects are difficult to scan. Rounded edges are always a good thing. Thus if you are looking for a budget scanner, this scanner would be perfect, but I would not recommend it if you want to copy technical parts on a regular basis.
From the product videos, I had high hopes for this scanner, but it did not meet my expectations at all. As soon as I scanned my first object, it was a flat black plastic object. Once scanned, I found it was A second scan had a chrome finish and also came out terribly. It was a red toy car for the third scan, and it turned out very poorly. To scan the 4th and final document, I used a very easy-to-use scanning tool. The part was a simple metal bit that I spray-painted matte gray to ensure it would scan very well. In order to receive the best possible result, the data was scanned from 5 positions. In this case, as well, the scan came out very poorly, with very deformed results.
In addition to the poor scan quality, there was poor documentation as well. Included in the kit are just instructions on one sheet of paper folded in half, with a few poorly drawn pictures explaining how to connect the cable and assemble the scanner. Directions for using the equipment were not provided. The package did not include any software. There is no link to the website where documentation or software can be found. In the end, I was able to download the software from the website after searching online and finding the URL. It was easy to use the software. It is normal for me not to give 1 star to something that only Due to the high price of the scanner, the poor quality scans, and the lack of documentation, it does not serve a particular I wouldn't even recommend it as a toy for kids. The scans, however, were so distorted that they were not accurate at all. I didn't bother measuring the scans for accuracy, and they also weren't as good as they were claimed to be. In any event, it appears that the unit I received was defective. Regardless, the lack of documentation and long scan times will prevent me from ordering another unit. There are several pros to the following Simple to assemble * Easy to use software (once you find it online)* Easy to assemble * Cons.
Through the use of this scanner, I was able to replicate the look of old discontinued figurines, adding my own touches to it! It is easy to locate the software and I can simply set up my scanner on my PC to begin using it immediately. This scanning device fits perfectly next to my 3D printer due to its form factor! The process of scanning unique objects or prototypes and placing them into a replicator is extremely simple. There are several pros to the following The following is a list of possible substitutes Software that is simple to use - Setup is easy and quick - This portable, neutral device is The following is a list of possible substitutes The process of scanning can take a bit of time, but the quality is worth the extra 10 to 15 minutes spent scanning. There are a few cons The following is a list of possible substitutes The need to re-write Each separate object to be scanned should be calibrated with the scanner.
The mechanism is really well done. There is, however, a pain in the software. The parameter settings are supposed to be entered all at once, a button will be pressed, and the scan will be completed. I actually have nothing to do with that at all. When you come back to the job after a while, it has paused, waiting for you to specify some additional parameter it should have asked at the beginning. You return after a while, and it still needs to know something regarding the job. A few minutes later, another question came up. There are so many dumb interruptions, so click carefully or it will start the tediousness all over Think about the frustration you would feel if you had to go to your xerox machine six times to copy just one page. There has been madness. There is no way for you to tell it is waiting because you turn off the irritating sounds that were designed for frat houses, not offices. Eventually, shame will convince them to do a simple software rewrite that would address all these complaints. You can keep it until then, but it won't do you much good.
