I was comparing this to the Revo Pop scanner and decided to go with this scanner because it can scan larger objects, whereas the Revo Pop can only scan items that fit on a turntable. br>Once I got the scanner in the mail, setting it up was a pain because the software is so new that it isn't trusted on Windows yet, so I'll have to disable anti-virus. It was necessary to disable the virus and firewall in order to install the drivers, but once they were installed and the updated software was installed, everything was fine. br>As for the scanner itself, the build quality is good and it comes with some stl files to print a hand grip if you want one. However, the usb/power cables are very short, so if you plan on scanning people or larger objects, you might want to invest in a rolling cart and a laptop. While the scanner can scan anything besides dark surfaces (see photo), there may be a problem with shiny and real glossy objects since the camera has a strobing light that causes glare. br>Aside from initial installation, the software is fairly self-explanatory to use, and you can see the differences in stability between the version that came on the USB drive and the current version; the new one had fewer "lost tracking" errors. I just wish the scanner came with more than "quick start instructions," because many of the scanner's more advanced functions lack tooltips that explain what they do, though the software is still new, so I expect it to improve over time.
I received this scanner for work a few weeks ago and was ecstatic to get it up and running right away! Regrettably, this was not the case. After a few days of trying to figure out what was wrong, I contacted the seller, the company (Creality), and the facebook CR-group. There is only one user group. I was able to get the scanner up and running with their assistance, and I've been pleasantly surprised by how accurate it is. After the setup and installation, this is a fantastic scanner for less than $1000. I would recommend buying it to anyone who is comfortable "tinkering," and joining the above-mentioned Facebook group as soon as possible after buying it. The steps I took to get the machine up and running are outlined below:
1. The software that came with the hardware is the best combination for it. Please do not use the website's updated version. br>2. Because the one on the jump drive did not match the camera serial number, Creality IT had to send me a new txt file. My attempts to manually alter the serial number within the txt file also failed.
3. The following is the order in which the unit must be put together: Connect the turntable to the camera using the USB cable. Connect the camera to the laptop via USB3 and then to the wall via the camera's power supply.
4. I tried installing the software on four different computers, with the winner being a nearly new HP with an 8th generation core i5 processor and a new graphics card (which will not work with an older computer). sorry!
5. Turn off all antivirus software and the Windows firewall on the computer.
