Questions & Answers
This is an excerpt from our PDF on engine turning found on our site "Cratex sticks should be cut into 1-inch pieces" The size of the sections is 1/2" to 2". Place the sticks into the drill press chuck leaving about an inch of space exposed at the ends. Ideally, the exposed length of the rotor should be between 12 and 16 inches. With longer exposed length, a wiping type motion will develop which will result in larger spins. Do not overtighten the chuck when mounting the abrasive stick into a rotating device (such as a drill press or other machine) to avoid it snapping. speed for rotating a stick is between 900 and 1400 revolutions per minutebr> Some users have reported that they prefer the stick to be attached to a dowel before inserting it into the chuckbr>.

It is hard to believe that Cratex has nailed rubberized abrasives like no one else has. My previous use of these tools was to port and polish a number of components and I wanted a box that was easy to use with multiple grits to turn engine parts My so far experiences with this kit include aluminum, copper, stainless and mild steel cold rolled to a thickness of 0. 0005". I had no problems in any case. While I have used dry grinding compound with it, it has worked and looked best to me when used with clover valve grinding compound. I can chuck them into my drill press since they are 1/2. These don't fit every project, but they are perfect for projects that require a 1/2" diameter swirl due to their size, price, and ease of use. The next time I buy them will be when they're worn beyond use, which won't be for quite some time. In addition, I am able to turn a decent profit.
The kit comes with a variety of abrasive grit grades and is of high quality.
Dressed up some aluminum parts really well with these!.
