It can be used in place of super fine sand paper. I've used 4/0 on windows before, including auto glass, with excellent results, but I rarely see it in local hardware or home stores. Also useful for smoothing out wood projects in between coats of varnish. This 5/0 is even finer and scratch-free than the previous one. br> One DISCLAIMER: AVOID SPARKS AND OPEN FLAMES WHILE USING THE WAD. This will ignite quickly and produce a strong flame. If it gets wet, it will rust quickly, so keep it in a zip lock bag.
Custom rifles are what I do. The wood is English walnut, which is very expensive. To finish rifle stocks, I sand, oil, and sand with progressively finer sandpaper while using Daly's Teak Oil. When I'm done, I gently polish any nibs or imperfections in the finish with a handful of this steel wool. Like the famous English gun makers, it leaves a sweet satin finish. For an heirloom rifle, this is the perfect finish.
Glass, too! This is something I really enjoy.
I use it for polishing and find it to be very effective.
