Questions & Answers
I'm guessing it's closer to 320. For 400, it appears to be a small course.
The grit measurements on these 3M sponges are unique to them. They're coarser than they claim, so the "extra fine" is closer to a 220 grit for me. I wouldn't use the extra fine for true fine work because it's too coarse.
That is an excellent query. When sanding products are labeled as course, medium, fine, or extra fine, they contain a mixture of granules rather than a single grit such as 100, 120, 220, 320, and so on. Extra fine is the closest grit to 320. These were purchased to finish small carving projects in which I needed tools that could quickly get into small crevasses and work quickly with flat planes. However, I've used sanding sponges that are much finer, and I wasn't particularly impressed with them. (I wish people would start putting the grit content of their products on the packaging!) The edges tear easily after only a few sanding jobs, so they don't seem to last as long as my other sponges; and, for some reason, they're more difficult to clean than my other sponges. ).
Our 15-year-old son says they're simple to hold. up to the age of her daughter They work well, but after a while, they begin to fall apart, but at a rate comparable to that of regular sandpaper. br>br>At the end of the day, we bought a drill attachment and sanded it with sandpaper. That is the approach I recommend if you have a large project.
These appear to be made of a rough exterior material (rather than gluing sand to a sponge), so there are no grit grains left behind. Hard blocks (which frequently cut all the way through the paint to reveal the primer or base material) do not last as long and make sanding much more difficult.
Although it says extra fine, these are quite coarse in my opinion. Not that this is a bad thing; they get the job done; however, the name is a little misleading. They're also stiff; I was hoping for a little more flex. But, once again, they did the job and are strong, long-lasting sponges.
I'm ordering these for the second time because I need to sand my cabinets before painting them. It went off without a hitch, and my cabinets look fantastic.
This was used to sand down some drywall mud. They did a fantastic job. They held up well and were comfortable to hold.
Between lacquer coats, I used this. It's something I've been doing for a long time. I also use the air and electric Sanders, but only for fine tuning between coats when you only need to do a little bit to get the next coat on. The sand sponges are indestructible.
This is the perfect size for my hand, and I'd been looking for something similar for a long time; a good buy and of high quality!.
