Festool 496803 Thin Triangular Extended Plate for RO 90

This accessory attaches to the RO 90 and accepts the model's standard triangle paper. It even has dust collection holes in the pad, despite the fact that it is only 1/4" thick. It enabled me to refinish wood floors in a house that had no foundation and only 1/4" to 3/8" X 1/2" deep sheet rock. The pad began to distort after about a half hour of sanding, but I was able to bend the tip back down, let it cool for 20 minutes, and continue sanding.

This is an excellent detail tool that allows you to sand in small, tight spaces while maintaining complete control. Doesn't collect 100% of the dust but that is a side effect of the thin plate but it collects enough . I'm very happy with it, as I have been with all of the Festools I've bought.

This piece works well in difficult-to-reach areas. One word of caution: if you sand with too much pressure on the tip, the three tab locking mechanism that secures the pad to the sander will be stripped. This was a blunder on my part, and the attachment was ruined as a result. Definitely a case of operator error. I called Festool and told them it was my fault; they sent one out to me free of charge in two days. That's the kind of service that will keep me coming back.

The Rotex RO 90 comes with this accessory. It's a triangular delta plate, but it's much longer than a typical triangular plate. I've attached two photos that show how a standard triangular plate and this plate compare side by side: the standard plate on the left (included in the tool's box), and the extended size plate on the right. br>br>The RO 90's offset triangular pad gives it a lot of versatility and allows it to get into tighter corners than any other sander. Pad vibrations have a large enough amplitude to keep removal aggressive. Great for removing paint in places where a round pad won't reach and where a standard delta pad/plate won't either. Such situations are uncommon, but they do exist. br>br>Part number 496802 is required if you need a replacement standard triangular plate. If the issue is with the velcro in the front tip of the StickFix pad, the velcro is attached to the pad itself - You can remove it, rotate it 120 degrees to use a new corner, or even flip it over to use the other side! These delta sanding pads with velcro are sold in pairs as spare parts, at a cost of $25 for two pads at the time of writing. The part numbers are 488715 for medium-grit sanding pads and 488715 for fine-grit sanding pads. 488716 is for the soft one, and 488716 is for the difficult one.
