I'm going to give it a five-star rating. This would probably get 3 or 4 stars if there were dozens of options. It is, however, the best option. br>I've reached the end of my third wheel. since the year 1987 We use it to sharpen the blades of our handplanes. We support the back of the hand plane blade with the metal support rail that the planer blade jig slides on, and we use a small machinist square to get a perfect square on the jig. The jig angle adjustment is used to set the angle at which the hand plane blade is sharpened. It's "less than perfect," and it takes a deft touch to keep it from rocking or sharpening one side more than the other. BUT. When all is said and done, we'll have razor-sharp hand plane blades. Shaving off hair from my hand or arm qualifies me as "sharp. " br>I couldn't care less about a "polished" or "micro-polished" edge. bevel" or any of the other finicky sharpening techniques demanded by the glossy Woodworking Magazines. I like it when things are as sharp as a razor. On Red or White Oak, we usually only leave it for about 10 minutes before returning to touch it up. This is a 1000 grit wheel that sharpens quickly and produces an extremely fine surface. I'm not going to worry about refining past the edge that this provides because I'm going to dull it way too quickly. I'll include some photos of my daughter kneeling on top of a massive tabletop, smoothing it out. To make things easier, we joke that we'll strap a pair of planes to her boots. I'm not sure how often your hand planes are used. When the temperature rises above 80 degrees, however, I have to keep a couple on hand to swap out because they become too hot to hold. br>This is also where we sharpen our chisels. However, they should be drawn freehand. I have a two-sided, gray, man-made rug that I keep in my room. Stone came in handy. a newer, flat one to dress this wheel as it wears down. They appear to have heeded the warning and improved the metal on which the wheel is mounted, as well as the glue used. My first one had rusted through and had delaminated. To get this new wheel to fit my 1987 base, I had to sand off a small round nub/key on the back of it. For all of my whining. As I previously stated, this is the most effective method for putting a good edge on heavily used hand tool steel quickly and consistently. Hand planes, in particular. I'm planning to purchase a new base and motor in the near future.

Thank you for universal products. Everything wears out, and when the manufacturer stops making replacements, you're left with no choice but to replace the equipment at a high cost compared to the cost of replacing the worn part. So when a company makes a part that can be used on other manufacturers' devices, it's a great value.
The item was exactly what I needed, and it arrived just a few days after I placed my order.
It's time for a new shipping box!.
It appears to be a large sum of money, but it lasts a long time (depending on how much you sharpen). The investment is well worth it, and the results are razor-sharp.
This is a great wheel. My Delta sharpening machine accepts it with ease.
It was a perfect match for my old stone.
