Here's a trick question for you. It is basically the same thing that Costco has on the Trinity Brand rack. Nevertheless, the original question is incorrect. I've bought dozens of wire racks from Costco, as well as several metal racks, and I've never paid more than $89 for any. In my local store, this item is only 99 cents. That may have been where they saw the price. Costco's website carries them for a higher price. As well as six shelves, the Costco ones have six shelves. It's full of them in my greenhouse. This is a very heavy duty product. A shelf does not need to hold 800 pounds for most people. I was almost paying the same price even after I had to drive to my local Costco (and endure angry drivers). Color of the unit is therefore the deciding factor in this matter.

One extra clip was included with each of the 3 shelves I bought. My guess is that it was created as a spare set just in case one set was damaged or missing. There might be some chance of damage during installation if the assembler damages one.

My first order was of heavy duty black units, but I received heavy duty CHROME units that were pretty sturdy, even if they were the wrong color! After the first shipment, I received black units that were very flimsy and did not correspond to the images for the product (apart from the black color). I am not sure what is going on here but these two products are completely different. It is a super chrome product, and it is close to junk in black. This is the exact same item I had ordered before) I would NOT recommend ordering this item in quantities.
My shipping supplies were on a large shelf that proved to be strong, and this was perfect for them. As shown in the photos, it feels quite sturdy and has enough capacity to hold quite a bit of stuff. The price is remarkable considering that many places charge twice as much for the same product. I ordered the same one again since I was in need of another. As you can see in the item pictured (and the one I received 4 years ago) there is a third support down the middle and the wires run front-to-back. I was given an item this time without the third support of the shelves, but the wires run the length of the shelf from side to side with support bars running forwards and backwards to stabilize the shelf. Interesting enough, I have just gone back through my emails and found that I had asked a question to the Amazon community four years ago because several reviews reported the same issue at that time. However, I was not aware of this nor had I read the negative reviews, so it's safe to say that I am completely disappointed this time around.
