Selected User Reviews For Wilson Wood Crafts Rustic Hand Hewn Barn Beam Mantel (6x6-48 inches Long)
This is a fantastic beam. We used two of them in our installation. On Amazon, I discovered 32" brackets with a 150 pds rating each. I wanted a more rustic look, so there are no hand hewn elements. This beam continues to be a focal point in our home. I had three clean sides and a mortise knotch on one face, so that was the one that went up against the wall. Very nice.
The images are self-explanatory. This is an incredible piece of wood! Hand hewing was done exceptionally well by the company. Finally, I was able to find a stain that looked exactly like barnwood. Everyone who has inquired about it has received my recommendation. It's a hit with everyone who sees it! The size is 8" x 72" in this case. Definitely a statement piece.
When this product arrived, I was immediately let down. It is unmistakably a barn beam, with large rectangular hollows (where it had previously served as a beam) and a rustic, natural finish. My intention was to use this as a mantle, but there was no way to display it without showing the holes on two opposing sides. I really didn't want to return this, but I knew looking at the holes in the mantle would bother me, and given how expensive the beam was, I decided to do so. This beam is very beautiful if you don't mind a rustic charm that is very true to life.
This piece of wood does not appear to be rustic in the least. I couldn't have the fake worm holes on two sides showing at all because they looked so deliberate. I was hoping for a and look with cracks and planing. Instead, it has axe cuts that are so symmetrical and sharp that it looks ridiculous. It was extremely difficult to put together, but we had high hopes for the reviews. Etsy is brimming with gorgeous reclaimed beams and beam mantels. We chose this mantel, and I'm so disappointed.
This beam was damaged when it arrived, but it was still a lovely beam. We spoke with the company, and they were gracious enough to give us a credit for the purchase price, despite the fact that the beam had been damaged during shipping. Great group of people! That's very reasonable!.
We used a darker stain and polyurethane to finish ours. It looks fantastic, but it was a challenge to put together. We bought long screws because it is just a piece of wood with no mounting mechanism, and luckily where we wanted it was a wall connected to our laundry room in the basement, so there are visible screws in the back.
Product is excellent, and delivery was prompt. It looked fantastic above my fireplace.
