I believe it is Asian Choi wood, as it is not heavily distressed.
We stained ours, but there were some areas where wood filler was used, which, of course, did not hold the satin finish.
40 3/4" tall
It's a 70-inch long mantle. As a result, it will not fit over an existing mantle that is 70 inches wide. Because the widest part is 9 inches wide, it will not completely cover a mantle that is 10 inches wide.

If you want something that looks like it was made in large quantities on a conveyor belt, go to your HD, HL, TJM, or other similar store and pay twice as much for something that will only last half as long. This is solid wood that has been handcrafted and is of high quality. I ordered the vintage white, which is more yellow than I expected, but that's fine with me; I'll probably whitewash it for my personal style. I can’t complain one bit about anything because the packaging was 100%, the shipping was quick and the instructions to put it together were perfect. My sister in law is going to% If you're on the fence, don't be! This piece adds warmth and coziness to my living room!.
The product was delivered on time and on the promised date. However. Tool markings have been carved into every piece of this mantel. Each and every one. The corbals, to be precise. The arch. The beveled hangar, which no one will ever see, was the only piece without those divits. It's possible to fix the divits with wood filler, but that's beside the point. I didn't spend $360 on a brand-new item only to have to repair it. I am an apartment dweller. I don't have access to a wood shop, but if I did, I would have built my own damn mantel. Disappointed beyond belief.
The only issue we have with this mantel is anchoring it to the wall. It comes with a z cleat, which would be perfect if we didn't have enough studs to install it, so we had to get special anchors and bolts that are 1" longer than the ones that came with it. I'm waiting for my husband to come back from the hardware store with them. I only used one coat of black paint to keep the grain visible. After that, I decided to go with a grey color for the top portion. I thinned the paint with water, then applied it with a rag and wiped it off lightly enough that the black graining showed through. After that, protect it with two coats of polyurethane. I'm pleased with the outcome.
I chose the unfinished look so that I could stain it to my liking, but the piece is damaged in every direction I look, despite its beauty. Above the mantel, on the left, right, and center. EVERYONE, in fact! What a stumbling block! The only reason I gave them a two-star rating was because of the speed with which they delivered and the overall concept. It's lovely, but what good is it if I have to give it back? I was hesitant because of the size, but I paid too much for it and now have to repair it myself with wood filler.
It's incredibly simple to put together and it looks fantastic! It is constructed well and is made of solid wood (no press board). When putting it together, you have a few options to make it look exactly how you want it to. My wife and I are extremely pleased with the purchase we made.
This mantle had been expertly crafted. We loved it, and I was nearly in tears when we had to return it because it was far too large and bulky for our small gas fireplace. However, they quickly recognized the error and promptly refunded, with only a small $23 shipping fee. Thank you to everyone who was a part of making such a decision. One of the reasons we keep shopping on Amazon is because of this.
The corbels have knockout holes for mounting to the mantel (optional), as well as a curved centerpiece for attaching between the corbels (more knockout holes). Only two corbels on the left side were included in our shipment. Only the right side of each had a knockout hole. If we drill and assemble this way, one of the corbels will have a visible knockout hole on the outside, and we'll have to redrill the side that doesn't have one. If we receive a response from the seller in a reasonable amount of time, I will update this review to be more positive.
It is simple to put together. The only issue I had was that I didn't think the four screws used to secure the bracket were sufficiently strong. I was concerned that the weight would be too much for them to handle. However, that was a simple problem to solve. I took advantage of every option available to me. My little bump out for an electric fireplace turned out fantastically!.
