Yes, there is a flat surface from wall to wall.
I used a string and a level to mark the locations of the holes to be drilled. The mantel was put up straight and level after the holes were drilled.

Yes, it is possible to install this on a brick surface. It comes with a hanger board that must be mounted to the brick before the mantel can be seated on it; depending on the type of brick you have, it may be difficult for it to lie flush against the wall if it is not completely flat.

I really wanted to fall in love with this mantel. We hung it in late September 2018, and it is now late November 2018, and the entire front and side are cracking, with white paint showing through the black paint. When I contacted the seller, I was told that it had been over 30 days and that I was out of luck; I would expect a $200 mantel to last longer than two months. br>br>In addition, the "pearl" inlay on the side of the mantel, which is supposed to confirm authenticity, is an eyesore. A) It's not even close to being a genuine pearl; it's made of unsightly white plastic, and B) the white plastic contrasts with the black mantel. The fact that it was mounted and completed made the husband extremely happy. There's no need to cut or paint; all you'll need is a drill, masonry screws, and a level. Boom! For years, all I had was a brick fireplace, and I waited patiently for my husband to "carpenter up" and build a mantel. "Hey, why don't you order a mantel shelf?" he suggests one day. "And I was like, 'Wait, what?'" Is that something you're capable of? "Then I came across this gem for a ridiculously low price, and I'm kicking myself for not looking sooner! br>br>The finish is a semi-gloss white that is neither too glossy nor too flat. Down the road, it will be simple to clean off the dust. The impact is immediate, and the result is stunning. br>br>The shelf was delivered in a well-protected box. The first one I ordered was 60" and it was too short, so I returned it and exchanged it for the 72", which was perfect. br>br>However, because it is a deeper shelf, I felt it needed something more on my brick fireplace, so I added some lightweight foam corbels (also on amazon: It now feels more balanced and finished thanks to Ekena Millwork BKT07X05X05ST. I checked to see if the manufacturer made corbels for this shelf, but they don't. That would have been helpful in ensuring that the white finish was consistent. Maybe they'll add that option (hint hint)br>br>However, I don't care for the little "pearl insert" that the company touts as proof that this is a genuine pearl brand mantel. The shelf appears to be damaged to anyone approaching from the right. The insert would be cool if it were on a wood shelf rather than a white one, but not on the white one. Not in the least. Personally, I could do without it, but it's a minor quibble given how enthusiastic I am about the shelf in general.
Although this mantle is lovely, it's difficult to hang it on a fireplace wall without studs, which most brick fireplaces lack. The first one the contractor installed looked lovely with some light art pieces on the mantle. It fell off and smashed on the hearth a few hours later, smashing everything in its path and gouging the mantle badly. The contractor requested that I place an order for a new one, but he insisted that the current one would remain in place. He doubled the miter hanging board and used eight masonry screws instead of four, as well as industrial strength glues for the screws and miter boards. For the time being, I've placed pillows on the hearth just in case. It's lovely, but be sure to hang it properly; the instructions that come with it are inadequate.
Their products are fantastic. It did have some cracks in the paint and a scuff mark on the edge when I got it. br>br>I'll have to paint it, which defeats the purpose of having it ready to go, but Even so, it's still quite lovely.
After reading several negative reviews for Pearl Mantels' products, I was skeptical to say the least. But, despite my reservations, I decided to take a chance, and I'm glad I did. Sarah Mantel Shelf (60-inch height) by Pearl Mantels inch, white) appears to be in perfect condition. Solid, straight boards with a nice, simple design are covered in a beautiful, glossy paint job. My Blu-ray player is able to fit on the 9" shelf depth. There's enough room for a blu-ray player to sit comfortably, and there's also enough room for decorative items- a couple of candles, and/or a couple of picture frames Also, knowing that the shelf is acting as a heat shield for my TV, which is hung above the fireplace, gives me peace of mind. This mantel complements my living room beautifully. br>br>It was a breeze to set up! I fastened the hanger board into wall studs with four 3" drywall screws, then slid the mantel onto the hanger board and gave it a few fist thuds on the edges and center to ensure it was secure. Finally, just above the mantel, in the center, I inserted a screw into the wall, just in case it gets bumped underneath, potentially lifting the mantel off the hanger board; for only $135, this was an excellent investment. This Pearl Mantels customer has nothing but praise for the company!.
It was a nice mantle, but it didn't work for me. Make sure you like this product because you will be charged shipping if you need to return it. $50- No thanks to $100 worth of shopping for a $150 worth of product. I'm stuck with a mantle that isn't fit for purpose. 👎🏼.
For less than $200, you can get a 72-inch television set. It is simple to put together. A lovely mantelpiece. We went with the 72-inch model because we wanted it to extend past the edge of the television. br>It was simple to set up. It includes a hanging board on which the mantel rests. We used lag bolts to anchor it into the brick because it was being hung above the fireplace. I ordered the corbels as recommended by another reviewer because the mantel sits on the board and can be adjusted like a shelf. They're only there for show. )br>br>It took about 30 minutes to complete the installation. The paint is silky smooth with no woodgrain texture. extremely tidy and clean br>br>I am completely satisfied with my purchase and choice.
