Questions & Answers
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Finding your studs in the wall (ideally two if the piece is long enough to span that distance) is the first step in the process. It entails drilling two holes in the back of the piece to accommodate the mounting hardware that comes with it. A level, drill, 1/2" drill bit, tape measure, pencil, screw/drill driver, and stud finder (if you have one) are all necessary tools. Consider the following scenario: Mark the height of the middle of the piece and draw a level line. Mark the center of where the mantel will go and make a mark on it as well as a mark on the wall to keep you centered at all times. Locate and mark the studs, then screw the provided hardware into a stud about an inch below your line, keeping the piece's top at or near the desired height. Because the brackets are wider than a wall stud, the other screw will be inserted into the wall using the wall anchors and screws provided. After that, you'll need to mark where the holes should be drilled on the back of the piece. We recommend measuring from the center line to each hole, then double-checking the distance by measuring the distance between the wall support hardware and ensuring it is the same as the distance you have marked for drilling. After that, you can use a 1/2" drill bit to drill the holes, and the piece should slide onto the wall hardware. To ensure that the piece does not move, we recommend using screws from the underside of the piece, where they will be hidden, and securing at least one through the piece and into a wall stud. The mantel turned out to be everything I had hoped for. It's got a lot of personality, and the roman numerals carved into the wood add a lot of charm, and it looks great on our new fireplace. I appreciated the letter that came with the mantel, which provided some background on the mantel and its origins. We are very pleased with the price, which is very reasonable. We've gotten a lot of positive feedback from our friends and family.
Rustic shelves are so lovely! I couldn't be more pleased! My husband is very talented, so hanging them wasn't a problem for him, but it might be for others. br>I adore these lovely shelves.
I wouldn't recommend it if you're a novice or even intermediate when it comes to figuring out how to properly install things. The post brackets/supports are quite heavy (steel), so they shouldn't be installed with sheetrock anchors. However, with a shelf this length (12"), you'll need at least one anchor, and that's assuming you can get one of the brackets into a stud. If you're anything like me, you're trying to fit them into a space where you don't have a lot of options for studs, and there was no way I was going to hang something this big with sheetrock anchors. Because I had no studs to screw into for the most part (I bought four of these shelves, so there were a couple of instances where I did get into studs), I had to buy toggle bolts and use them to secure 1x3 strapping to the wall first. The strapping is fastened to the wall with three toggle bolts on each side. I was ready to screw the floating shelves into the strapping from the tops at a 45* angle, three screws per shelf, with pilot holes, using 3" sheetrock (black, Griptite) screws. Another step was to stain the tops, bottoms, and ends of the strapping pieces so that the light pine colored strapping back there would be less noticeable. It turned out beautifully, but it was a major pain to put together. I put it off for months because I had more pressing matters to attend to, and this was not a simple installation.
It arrived quickly and in good condition. Despite the fact that we were told the images were just examples ("The Fireplace Mantel Shelf is a stock item. The one you see isn't always the one you'll get; they'll look similar but have different features. "), we were taken aback by the stain's darkness. We were hoping for something that looked more like the light stain in the photos. Ours has just been stained, and it's almost black. We won't return it because it costs too much money; however, we wish we had known to tell the company not to stain it so darkly.
If I can figure out how to mount this thing, I will update my review. It's attractive, but the holes drilled in the back are far too small for my brackets. Despite being sold on it having an easy installation piece as pictured in the product photos in the offering, I hung it. Instead, they carved out the back and sent the T brackets, as shown in my photos. I finally got it installed after two trips to Lowe's and $40. Because of the limited space carved in the back, I was unable to hit a stud. So I'm hoping the heavy-duty anchors I bought, which are rated to hold up to 79 pounds, will suffice. Crossing my fingers! This would have required no trips to Lowe's and I might have also hit a stud if it had been as pictured in the seller photos. The board's quality disappointed me, but I was generally pleased with it.
I think I could have gotten something similar for a lot less money at a lumber store. I think I would have preferred it more if they had spent more time staining and sanding it. It's lightly stained, so it appears to be black dirt or a stain. In addition, one end is stained while the other isn't. Also, one side was rounded while the other was not, giving the impression that it had been rushed. It's also extremely difficult to put on, and my husband is capable of doing so. Not happy.
We're not professionals, but we got it up and running in under an hour (with a few errors because this isn't our day job!). ) It even came with a note explaining the origins of the item. I 100% would recommend this regardless of price, but particularly because of. You could easily spend more on a fake from Overstock or Wayfair.
The floating shelves looked great, and the sizes were accurate, but I didn't like that the stain was still wet, and it was wrapped in plastic. I ruined a nice shirt by opening one of them, but oh well.
