There is a 9" depth to this fireplace mantel. , which would be ideal for a Christmas garland to be hung.
Yes, it can be used with a natural stone fireplace.
No, I do not believe that is true.
The mantle was placed about 15" from the top of our gas fireplace by our builder. It appears to do a good job of protecting the TV, which is about 4-feet tall. The mantle should be 5" above the floor. I hope this has been of assistance to you.

The mantle itself is attractive and well-made, but the wood cleat you attach to the wall is a tiny little thing that the mantle finds difficult to grasp if your wall is made of natural, uneven stone. It would have been nice if the cleat was larger, thicker, and deeper so that the mantle could grab hold of it even if your wall wasn't perfectly square. If it's even a fraction off, the cleat and overhang on the inside of the mantle won't line up properly, if at all, and you won't be able to screw into both the mantle and the cleat to secure it to the wall. This sliver of wood serves as the cleat. To keep the stone from getting in the way of the mantle and preventing the two wooden surfaces from mating evenly, I had to use various shims behind the wooden cleat on my wall. There would be more surface area for the mantle to rest/hang on and for the screws to go into if it was a larger cleat that protruded further from the wall. It turned out well, but it took a lot of effort on my part. I was about to make my own cleat out of a larger piece of wood and flip the mantle upside down to avoid having to use the small surface area for mounting to the cleat that is already inside the mantle. It looks good, and if you mount it on a sheetrock wall, you won't have this problem, and it'll be a breeze.
I admit that I was hesitant to purchase this mantle without seeing it first because it is such a large piece and the focal point of our family room. I couldn't be happier with it, even though it's only been a few weeks. We didn't install it ourselves because it was part of a larger remodel, but our contractor raved about how well it was built and how solid it is. Of course, the box arrived slightly scuffed (it is large and heavy), but the way it was packaged inside left no mark or scratch, which astounded me. The color is exactly as depicted in the photo, and I am very pleased with the result.
It was not installed by me. I paid someone to do it for me, and he had it up and running in less than an hour.
This was an excellent shelf to include in our new family room's bar area. On the bottom side, I added glass racks and a small under-counter tape light that is still being wired in. Because the shelf is hollow on the inside, I was able to drill a hole to hide the wall outlet and install an electrical plug. The under-counter lights can now be turned on and off using a wall switch. (The electrician must still go back to the wire outlet. ) This is an excellent shelf. Backslash tile is something I'd like to add at some point.
I ordered this lovely mantle a week ago and didn't realize it had arrived until I looked at my Amazon account and saw that it had arrived. I dashed into the living room to find that it had already been installed by my boyfriend! I really like how our living room looks now that it's finished. This mantle was beautifully crafted. He said it was simple to install, even though he did it alone. Oh, and last week he also painted the original 1968 marble fireplace surround and brass doors.
The product is of good quality and is simple to set up. Because it's hollow, it's light, but it's a good quality mantle. I'm very happy.
I hired a handyman to help me with the installation. Screws that were appropriate for the job were provided. It appeared to be a straightforward situation. Place the mantel on top of the bracket that was drilled into the wall. For my project, the scale was ideal.
The pictures in the installation instructions did not match the pieces at all. It was extremely simple once I figured out the proper placement of the pieces; the problem was that it took me 2 hours and multiple attempts to figure out the proper placement of the pieces. I'm sure someone who has done something similar before would think this is easy, but I've only ever installed window blinds and pictures on my walls. The product is fantastic in and of itself.
