It began to dry out and turn brown after a couple of months. Trying flipping it and then not flipping it the second time around proved to be more successful for me. When it is full of water and not allowed to run dry, the filter just disintegrates and stops circulating air with moisture. To check if it was working, I even bought a humidistat.
