(Since joining the family at 1 year of age, my cat has had nasal congestion issues. In winter, though, his congestion gets really bad and he has wheezing fits and bloody noses. He is now 15 years old. The humidifier I purchased was a small device and the beach tent that I bought is a small one that zips up. The outcome was total success, but what I didn't realize is how much he loved the experience. no longer need to zip the tent completely shut because he goes inside several times a day and just sits in the mist staring at his face, then he lays down and takes a nap for up to an hour. He's still sneezing but his congestion has greatly reduced, so that now he sneezes productively and his wheezing has completely subsided. Both of our two work great, and we have owned both for more than a year. They are used seasonally or when someone is sick, so about 6 months of the year they are used on/off. My cleaning routine consists of putting a small amount of bleach in the water tank and letting it sit for a brief period of time. Mold and mildew buildup is a common problem. A mildew-filled area will be impossible to clean and will get very dirty very quickly. My dishwasher came out with a diffuser still covered in black mildew after I put the water tank in on high temperature wash. Cleansing it is impossible because there's no way to take it apart. The first winter I used this in a small bedroom for nighttime use. The first winter I was very satisfied with it, it worked great, it was the perfect size for a nursery, easy to fill, mostly easy to clean, and my complaints were nonexistent. The humming noise on the fan was even very soft for the white noise effect. However, after using it for two winters, the noise has become extremely loud (certainly the motor? If so, not sure how to resolve this? ), but I was able to temporarily fix it For the third time now, I've tried to use it, but the noise simply won't go away. It is good enough for me to give it a 3 star rating. The unit was only cleaned once with filtered tap water and I will admit I only used a 1-gallon pitcher. A vinegar rinse is recommended twice a month. I do not think this will affect my star rating - " It took me some time to figure out how to fix the loud noise. My first action was to thoroughly clean the unit with vinegar (which didn't solve the issue). Then I took the base apart and then blew the fan surface with an air duster to get rid of any mineral buildup. It is a great humidifier with cool mist! The Vicks portable humidifier I settled on after meticulously searching for one without a bright light was medium-sized and portable. I love how it uses tap water and emits a cool mist of water vapor to relieve stress. I can comfortably use the pump all night long even though the reservoir is big enough. The unit is small enough to fit on my little night stand, and I do not have any issues with water standing on the table (a common complaint from There is a small green light on the dial, but it is not bright, so it will not disturb your sleep. There is just a slight murmur every now and then when water moves from the base into the reservoir. This item even comes with a place to put a scented pad if you wish to fill your room with menthol. In the water reservoir, the water comes out of the bottom, and the hole is large enough to provide easy access when cleaning. Rinse with white vinegar every two weeks according to the directions. There is plenty of room to see how much water is in the tank due to the reservoir's transparency (light blue tint). In addition, I didn't want to put heat into my bedroom, and the misting from this machine is cool, not hot. In general, I like it a lot!
