It keeps my upstairs bedroom cool as it truly chills my room (heat rises and the room gets *hot* at night because of the fan).

My central air conditioner broke down in 90+ degree weather, so I installed this in my upstairs bedroom. The room temperature had reached 87 degrees at the time of installation, but had dropped to 72 degrees within 2 hours. It does not make much noise on high, but when lowered to 7, the compressor will turn on and off depending on the temperature, so that can be a little distracting. When I got home yesterday, my wife had the bedroom door open and a fan blowing out of our room. This AC unit is supposed to serve just one room, but she had the bedroom door open when I got home yesterday. The temperature in both our room and the other 2 upstairs bedrooms was 74 degrees in the heat of the day. Once the new central system is installed, I'll be much happier with this unit, but until then, I'm quite happy with it. It was so good that I bought one for my downstairs as well. It cools the entire downstairs with 8000 btu's. There is also a GE, slightly larger at 7000 btu's.
There are 14 by 12 rooms in my house, and it cools them perfectly. Although I can leave my bedroom open, I keep it very cold as the hallway and other rooms can cool down a tiny bit but my room remains exceptionally cold despite the open door! There is no way to change the direction of the air at the vent where it flows out, so it will always move back and forth. Besides that, I would recommend the air conditioner. GE has installed 3 central air conditioning units in our new house since we moved in (the other two were a different model), and this one is by far the loudest despite being only 5050 BTU and much smaller than the other two, which are each 6000 BTU. Whenever I keep it on level 2 cool, then it is pretty quiet, but if I raise it to the top it sounds like there is a train running through the room, and this is not an exaggeration. The volume of this is too high in my home office, so I have to turn it down otherwise I will be unable to hear Although it does cool the room down if you run it at one of the higher levels, unfortunately due to the noise when running it at those levels I will have to run it at only level 2 and supplement it with a down draft and a ceiling fan, which is unacceptable to me.
Buying this AC for my bedroom was a good decision. It doesn't really matter if it's hot during the day when I'm not sleeping, but I care if it's cold at night when I'm Instead of cooling my house to 70 degrees, I keep the air in my bedroom at 78 degrees and let the central air do the rest. My room stays nice and cool with it. I don't think there is anything crazy about it, but it's kind of noisy. It's an awesome little unit that keeps you cool at night for a very reasonable price!.
