Questions & Answers
The lines on the MR COOL DIY unit do not need to be evacuated because they are pre-installed. Charged/sealed is a term used to describe something that has been charged or sealed
Yes, if you could afford all of the necessary components. MrCool's requirement that you purchase a 25-foot line set regardless of need has nothing to do with the lines being charged with refrigerant. That was my excuse as well, until I went out and bought one. The line set is entirely distinct and empty. The only reason they don't sell a 12 foot line is that they aren't in the mood. They also won't let you trade your 25-foot line for their 16-foot line. foot. Period. If you're interested in their 16-minute video, click here. You'll need to find a spot to put your 25-foot line. or throw it away if it's above the foot line.
Yes. The wires controlling the inside unit have clips on them, but the power must be connected directly. There are no connections that look like outlets. You'll need some electrical knowledge, but if you've ever installed an electrical circuit before, you'll be fine.
You can power it with a cord if you wire it properly, use heavy gauge wire, and plug it into a 20 amp outlet. circuit. For a plug on the female end, I'd use a 10/3 extension cable. Make sure it's in a weatherproof box that's been covered. When plugged in, the cables exit through the bottom.

This unit has close to 400 hours on it and is in perfect working order as of today (4/5/20). So far, I've only used it for heating, but it seems to work fine. Because I have about 1,200 square feet to heat and cool, the unit is a little undersized, but I was unable to install anything larger due to blower unit placement restrictions. To warm up the house, I only need to turn on my gas heater in the morning. The app is nice, but it lacks 100% of the features of the remote. I wish they'd add more features so that you could use the system to its full potential. br>br>I will say that installing this system yourself is quite a task, so it is not recommended for someone who has only done minor home improvements. I recommend watching a few YouTube videos to familiarize yourself with the steps involved, but keep in mind that some will show you what to do and what not to do. All of the items you'll need are listed in the videos, and they're all available on Amazon. br>br>*** This is a two-person job to do safely. br>br>In addition to the MrCool unit, I needed to purchase the following items (these are the items I needed, but your needs may vary depending on how you plan to install): WN2060U SIEMENS WN2060U SIEMENS WN2060U SIEMENS SIEMENS WN2060U SIEMENS SIEM Sealproof Power Whip Assembly, 1/2-Inch Fused AC Disconnectbr> Fused AC Disconnectbr> Gardner Bender PPC-Inch x 6 Ft Nonmetallic Liquid Tight Flexible Electrical Conduitbr>Inch x 6 Ft Nonmetallic Liquid Tight Flexible Electrical Conduitbr>Inch x 6 Ft Nonmetallic Liquid Tight Senville 20 Ft. 1575 Plastic Cable Clamp Mini Split Air Conditioners Decorative Line Set Cover Kit 3. 5"br> Universal 5"br> Outdoor Mounting Bracket for Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioner Heat Pump Systems, 9000- 36000br> SNUG Fasteners (SNG499)br> Bosch IMC16 1/2" Impact MultiConstruction Drill Bitbr> Bosch BL2739 3/16 In. Don't throw your money away. 24,000 BTU MINI-OUTSIDE AIR COMPRESSOR self-split) After exactly 4 hours of use on the first day, it disintegrated, prompting a frantic phone call from the neighbors at 11 a. m. 30 p. m. , stating that my brand new Mr Cool HVAC was making a terrible noise and that they were afraid it was going to start a fire; I thought I was saving thousands on a new HVAC by not having it installed. Instead, I squandered two days of my life installing a completely useless load of garbage that I will now have to pay someone to remove. This is the worst Amazon item I've ever bought. I learned a valuable life lesson. Pay for a professional HVAC service and name-brand products. COVID-style, stay away from Mr Cool. 19 !.
I installed the split air conditioner myself in two days. I'm a pretty good do-it-yourselfer, and this unit was a breeze to put together. If you don't have the necessary skills, seek assistance. The precharged lines changed the game, and connecting them was a breeze. This unit will take the place of a noisy old 24000 btu window unit. It's a very quiet split! Because the exhaust is so quiet, I occasionally walk up to it to make sure it's actually running. br>br>However, there was one issue that marred my experience and makes me nervous if I need repair parts in the future. I had to call MrCool and leave a number because the unit didn't come with a condensate drain line. They didn't pick up the phone when I called. I kept calling, and after 5 days, I was able to get through. Despite the fact that this was a MrCool product, they refused to send me a drain line, even after I pointed out that it was missing. They said it wasn't their fault; it was the Chinese's! They told me to go to the distributor, Ingrams Air, and try to get the hose. When I contacted Ingrams, I was told that they make every effort to ship it the same day. They hadn't shipped it even after four days. After speaking with them again on Friday, I was told they would try to ship it out the same day, but it didn't, so I found one on Amazon and received it the following day. Thank you so much, Amazon. It took 11 days for the manufacturer, MrCool, and the distributor to get a part that both companies had in stock and ship it. My main concern now is how I will be supported if, or more likely when, I require repair parts. The product is excellent, receiving five stars; however, the customer service and follow-up receive only one star. Based on customer service, I am unable to recommend this product.
After opening the packages, I discovered that the 25-pound package was missing. ft pre- charged lines, as well as a variety of installation accessories I tried several times to contact both the seller and the manufacturer, including being on hold for more than three hours, but I never got through or received a call back. I can't give a review of the product because I'm missing several key components. If the seller or manufacturer contacts me to resolve the issue, I will update this review.
It efficiently heats and cools my 450-square-foot space. Setup was a breeze; with the help of a friend, it took about an hour. My only complaint is that the line set isn't just two copper lines covered in really cheap styrofoam, which is ridiculous considering this is supposed to be an outside line. It won't last very long in the elements, so I'll have to find a line cover set or a nylon sleeve to protect it. Put a 3mm plastic sleeve on it, it'll only cost you a buck.
The air conditioner will only turn on and off after it has been properly installed. There is no way to change the settings. The indoor unit and the remote don't talk to each other. Without the use of a remote, it is impossible to control the device with a smartphone. I spent the entire day installing it only to be unable to use it. If your air conditioner costs this much, you should at least be able to control it manually if the remote malfunctions or whatever the problem is.
It was a fairly simple installation; I'm not sure if the instructions that came with it were for an older or newer model, but they weren't exactly the same. Even so, it only took one person less than four hours to complete the installation. If you don't already have one, be aware that you'll need to hire an electrician to install a new circuit.
