Questions & Answers

Is this a 24000 two-ton unit or a 36000 three-ton unit? I've installed over 20 mini splits and have never come across a unit with two different btus ratings. Could you please help me?

This unit has a dip switch that allows it to operate as a 2 ton or 3 ton system.

Is it possible to use this unit with an existing furnace? (Replace existing evaporator) I'd like to keep the gas because it's so cheap in this area compared to even an efficient heat pump. ?

Although the condenser can be used with an evaporator coil, the air handler included in this package cannot be used with an existing gas furnace.

Is this unit capable of heating without the use of a fan? Is it possible to use it as a stand-alone product?

This unit is a heat pump, so it can provide heat, but it's designed to be duct-connected.

Is it possible to connect this to existing floor ducting?

That is entirely dependent on whether your connecting plenum box will fit the 11-inch plenum box. 20" x 3/8" 3/8" x 3/8" 3/8" x 3

The installation went off without a hitch because it was a do-it-yourself project
5/5

Update: I'm still pleased with this unit after six months of ownership. We've never had a more comfortable or peaceful home. So far, there have been no issues. The monthly usage report from the Sensi smart thermostat, which I installed to control the MrCool heat pump, is attached. Original review: br>br> I replaced my furnace with this heat pump about a week and a half ago as a DIY project, and I'm very pleased with the results thus far. Since then, our weather has been all over the place. Since I finished the installation, we've had outdoor temperature fluctuations ranging from 35 to 94 degrees, and the Mr Cool Universal Heat Pump/Air Handler system has heated and cooled our home to a very comfortable 71 degrees without issue. I reduced the system's size to two. When I first installed it, I put it in ton mode to see how it performed. So far, everything has gone well. It's possible that I'll revert to the default 3-dimensional model. If I notice it struggling to keep up with hotter or colder temperatures later this year, I'll switch to the ton (36,000 BTU) mode. br>br>Unlike our old furnace, this new system is extremely quiet. The majority of the vents are almost silent, with only one or two vents closest to the air handler making a light fan noise. The inverter motors turn on quietly, without making any jolting noises, which I believe helps me sleep better at night. The outside unit is also extremely quiet. Standing right next to this condenser, I can hear my neighbor's condenser louder than mine, despite the fact that it's about 40 feet away. br>br>This is the first time I've had to replace an HVAC system. Even though I consider myself to be fairly handy, taking on this project was a little intimidating because I had no prior experience replacing furnaces or working with refrigeration lines. However, I'm glad I installed it myself. The installation of the no-vac hose was relatively simple. Building a duct stand for the air handler to sit on for the air return (I did the upflow configuration) was the most difficult part of the installation, but youtube videos helped me figure it out. I probably saved two or three thousand dollars by doing this project myself, which means I was able to get a nicer system for less money than a cheaper/less efficient system would have cost to install professionally. This is a win-win situation for me. If you're doing the installation yourself, keep the following in mind: To install the lineset, you'll need a pair of big wrenches. Technically, you should tighten them to the exact amounts specified in the manual with a torque wrench, but I couldn't find an open ended torque wrench that would fit the 5/8 inch line set fittings (I believe one required a 1 1/4 inch wrench, and another was a little bigger (maybe 1 and 3/8 inches). ) I had no trouble tightening the 3/8 inch fittings with the crows feet attachments I had, but for the larger lineset fittings, I had to make do with my best guess. So far, there have been no leaks. I'm going to cross my fingers. br>br>I couldn't find any information about whether or not the air handler had a slot for an air filter in the Mr Cool manuals. A metal mesh filter is housed in a slot in the bottom. Although it isn't a true air filter, it appears that you could slide it out and replace it with a 20x20x1 inch air filter. Because I decided to add a 4-point bonus, I can't be sure. Instead, place an inch-deep filter box beneath the air handler. br>br>Once you've finished connecting the lineset, open the valves on both the outside unit (condenser) and the air handler to release the refrigerant. This is only for the condenser, according to the instructions. br>br>I should also point out that the system appears to be quite effective. I use a meter from time to time to check how much electricity the condenser is using, and the highest I've seen it at is only around 6. 240 volts and 5 amps This is at the 2-minute mark once more. adjusting the volume br>br>When I purchased this system, there were no reviews available, and it appears that this will be the first, which should help anyone deciding whether or not to purchase it. I'm glad I took the opportunity to do so.

So far, I'm impressed with this unit
5/5

The installation went well, and the unit is running smoothly as of right now (29 degrees outside, 75 degrees inside). My only complaint is that there is no vac line set. The crows feet you need come in a variety of sizes, and most hardware stores in my area don't care about anything over an inch. I needed a 1 1/4 inch and a 1 5/16 inch. You also use a 15/16 and 7/8, which I didn't realize until I got the unit and had to look up in the manual. The condenser (outside) is quite heavy; if my memory serves me correctly, it weighs 250 pounds, while the air handler weighs 150 pounds. The air handler has a filter slot, but because mine is in the attic, I laid horizontally, connected a plenum, and ran a 16-inch flex to my return. I have a Nest thermostat, and the unit uses a B wire for the switch valve. When the wires are connected, the nest will detect them and ask if they are an O (most common) or B, which determines whether the pump heats or cools. If you wire it backwards, it will heat in cool mode and cool when you need heat. Both the O and B wires are connected to the same port, which simply determines the valve's normal position in the pump.

It's efficient, compact, and easy to put together on your own
5/5

In three full weekends, I was able to install 3 tons of ductwork, custom plenums, and new electrical, drainage, and thermostat wiring on my own, which included ductwork, custom plenums, and new electrical, drainage, and thermostat wiring. This was made possible by a quick connect lineset (no vacuum or soldering required!). ) Seems to be fairly efficient so far (northern California climate)br>br>Only issues:br>1) wiring diagrams on condenser and manual were incorrect and needed to be updated. When I called support, they responded quickly, but it cost me a half day of work. br>2) The condenser access panel is extremely difficult to close with the quick connect linesets because they don't fit well in the opening due to the insulation. It took over an hour to close the thing and secure the screws. It would be beneficial to think about that process more thoroughly and include more detail in the installation manuals. br>3) the concrete anchors were a bit of a letdown. It didn't hold up very well, so I had to go out and buy my own.

Good unit for the money to run, but it's as heavy as a hailstone, weighing twice as much as a good man but being twice as quiet

MrCool is a big fan of mine
5/5

Quick summary: The product is exactly what it says it is. Installs easily (assuming you know what you're doing), works well, connects to existing thermostat (Honeywell Wifi), has no issues, and I've had it running for two weeks in '3 ton' mode with no issues. It certainly keeps me cooler than the previous model I replaced. Oh, and there's NO ONE ELSE IN THE HOUSE! We set up a pad to the side of the compressor before it arrived to keep it away from a bedroom wall. A complete waste of time and effort. You can have a normal conversation while standing next to the unit if you want to - Sound would not be an issue through a wall in any way. br>br>I'm afraid I'm unable to communicate with the pre- Lineset with a lot of pressure. They appear to work with high-quality connectors and other components, but we didn't use them because the run was too short, so we simply cut and connected the copper as usual. There were no surprises, the unit appears to be of good quality, and it works well as a drop-in replacement. in place of an old ducted air conditioning system with air handler It is highly recommended.

Furnace replacement that is both compact and efficient
5/5

This heat pump system was installed to replace an old gas furnace. Pre- Self-installation was made possible by charged refrigerant lines, which made it more or less simple. The thermostat hookup instructions were unclear, but once I figured it out, everything worked fine. Compact compressor that fits nicely in my small space and is extremely quiet.

It's just as simple as the instructions say
5/5

The outside unit is extremely quiet, which is fantastic. The fan is only audible when it is working hard; most nights, the crickets are louder. br>br>The wiring for the reversal valve was the only snag I encountered during installation. I had to do some digging to figure out how to change the settings in my thermostat to change the configuration because the old unit was an "O" and this unit is a "B," so I had to do some digging to figure out how to change the configuration. br>br>This is a very do-it-yourself type of project. Anyone with half a critical thinking brain should be able to figure it out.
