**Update** I have had this air conditioner for almost two years now and I am still enjoying it. It is necessary to remove the vent assembly in the winter and reinstall it in the spring. I still get the expected level of cooling from it. Although I wouldn't recommend it, I still like At the moment, I am ordering another one for my extremely hot laundry room. . .

It can be difficult to decide what is best to buy on the web because reviews are so contradictory. The fact that I ignored the negative reviews and picked up this unit is proof that it is a great product! Does it make a difference whether you have central air conditioning or not? It's a no-brainer that we wouldn't. If you expect it to be that hard, you're simply not smart. Even with the TV's volume turned up while it's running, I don't need to monitor it. There was a deafening sound coming from the window and it was almost impossible to talk even when sitting next to each other on the couch. You should forget about watching TV. As I had read so many reviews telling me it was noisy, I was delighted to find it quiet.
We put both of them in the corner of the living room and positioned them facing the middle of the living room which is approximately 15' by 30'. There is a sea vent beside the window and it is well hidden by my drapes (and some other stuff too). In 10 minutes the room cooled down because I set the thermostat to 74 degrees. In the living room, the width is greater than the length. The unit is about 20 feet away from us. It's cool from the living room into the dining and kitchen area. In a nutshell, My house's central air conditioner is broken, and fixing it would cost almost $7,000. Rather than spending that much money on the repair, I bought this portable air conditioner, and it does the job far better at a much lower cost. It has saved me HOURS of work this summer. The temperature gets up to 110F where I live, but this air conditioner cools my room down in just minutes. As an energy saver, I set it to turn itself off after an hour. While I don't expect this thing to cool down my entire living room, I go to my room after work and so far I've been satisfied with it. Only complaint I have is that the instruction manual is less than helpful, but you can watch a video on YouTube about how to do it. Another complaint I have is that it is a bit loud however, honestly the benefit far outweighs the cons so in my opinion it gets 5 stars. - I have used it daily for more than a year now. The only maintenance required was to drain the reservoir and clean the vents*- I have not installed any upgrades to the system. There is a mistake in the listing, as this unit states 10,000 BTUs but actually only has Despite the fact that it uses 10,000 BTUs but only produces 6,000 BTUs in cold air, this discrepancy could be explained. Before making an impulse purchase I should have done the research I should have done for this. I would never have made the purchase in the first place if I had done the research.
