Yes, it is necessary to vent it. The instructions state that it does not need to be vented, which is extremely disappointing. I bought it in part to keep my basement warm during the winter. I don't have any windows in my basement, so there's no way for the cold air to escape.
Yes, a hole in the wall can be used to vent. Why do people respond to questions when they have no idea what the answer is? The vent hose has a diameter of 5 inches.
A heat pump is a mechanical device that transfers heat energy from a heat source to a heat sink. Heat pumps absorb heat from a cold space and release it to a warmer one, moving thermal energy in the opposite direction of spontaneous heat transfer.
In most cases, the square footage of the space to be cooled is multiplied by 30. As an example, a 200-square-foot (x30) room would require a minimum of Air conditioner with a BTU rating of 6,000.

This air conditioner on wheels is fantastic. It was purchased for our 400 square foot upstairs master bedroom. It made sense to purchase this unit because we didn't want to run the central air conditioning unit for the entire 2,200 square foot house just for one room at night. Good: br>br> br> Cools the room quickly!br> Looks greatbr> Doesn't require as much water. Possibly once or twice during the summer. br> br> br> br> br> br> br> br br> It wasn't nearly as loud as I had anticipated. The fan is quiet, and when the compressor kicks in, the decibels increase, but this does not bother me. It sounds like the air conditioners in the hotel rooms in Las Vegas. br> The exhaust hose and components appear to be doing an excellent job of keeping heat out of the house. Make sure there is enough space between the unit and your window. br>br>What could be better:
- The entire room will be illuminated by bright blue display lights. To keep it dark at night, I need to cover it with a magazine.
- The included weather strips and seals are cheap and easily torn. If you don't get them on correctly the first time, plan a trip to your local hardware store.
- The three-piece section that is installed in your window is uneven, allowing hot air to enter through small gaps. Duct tape was used to seal it, which was a simple solution. PS 1; br>br>PS 2; PS 3; PS 4; PS 5; PS 6; PS 7; PS Before using it, make sure it has sat for at least 24 hours.
PS 2. This machine can pull a total of ten pounds. 8 amps. Check to see if the AC plug you're using is putting a strain on your fuse box and causing it to trip. It tripped my fuse box, which was rated for 15 amps, when I used it in a room with other lights, TVs, and a Playstation on.
It is not something you should purchase. I've bought two of these so far, and I'm going back to my window unit after returning the other. If you're lucky and get one of the working ones, it might work as a car air conditioning unit. The 14000 btu model, on the other hand, couldn't even keep a 10x10' room cool. br>br> The first unit I purchased burned out a fuse, which I had to replace myself; the unit claims to be a 15 amp unit, but it fried a 20 amp fuse. Amazon was able to reimburse me for it, but it was exactly what I had paid for, and the downtime has been a major issue for me. br>br> Additionally, both units violently rattle and shake constantly before the 'cool' (usually around 80°F) air simply shuts off after about 30 minutes. br>br> It appears that whoever created the Black Decker Amazon account is simply buying trashed extra units from the real Black and Decker and 'fixing' them in their garage or something. Both times I received a unit like this, it arrived in a different condition, as if it had been opened before I received it. The boxes were also in terrible condition when they arrived. If you're a fake account, I hope you read this and stop ruining what used to be a trusted household name brand; don't buy these scumbags.
This isn't something you should buy. Mine was broken after only a month of use. I made sure to clean the filters (there are three) and keep the water pan empty by following all of the instructions. I double-checked that there was enough space between it and the wall. However, after just over a month of use, it began to malfunction. The compressor initially came to a halt, then began to beep incessantly, displaying a reading of 90 on the display. I unplugged it. Allow for some time to pass. The filters were then cleaned (again) and the water pan was emptied. It worked overnight, but then stopped beeping the next morning. When I called the hotline, they said it was simply overheating. I gave it another chance to sit. As they had instructed, I restarted it. It was set to a warmer temperature of 80 degrees instead of 78 degrees. About 1. It had stuttering noses from the compressor after 5 hours, so it was turned off again. I called the same repair line guy again, who informed me that the problem was with the compressor, which needed to be replaced. They'd call me back in 48 hours to schedule a replacement. After that, it would take a week to ship it. So it could take up to two weeks to get a replacement unit. That, like this one, may not work. br>br>Previously, I had an LG television that worked flawlessly. I used it to cool a room that was similar in size to this one. During Hurricane Irma, we also used it with a generator. During that time, it was bumped around a lot while being transported to and from various homes, but it was never damaged. Because I gave the LG to my parents, I replaced it with this one. br>br>I should've used another LG instead. Now I have a much more expensive Black and Decker that is useless, and I'll be in the 90-degree heat of south Florida for the next two weeks until it is replaced. They will not give you a refund. So either I'm out a lot of money and have to go out and buy a new one today or I have to wait up to two weeks for it to be replaced. br>br>Don't be fooled by the glowing testimonials on this page. It's not even close to being worth it. Instead, opt for an LG. This is a terrible idea.
I bought it two months ago and it already needs to be replaced because the compressor won't turn on and isn't blowing cold air. I read the entire manual and the box from cover to cover, and there was no mention of letting it sit upright for 24 hours before turning it on, but I did so anyway, and the problem persists. Now I have to wait for their customer service to approve my claim, which means I'm trapped in the heat until then. I first contacted Amazon, who informed me that they would not be able to replace it. I'm disappointed with the entire situation. I'm on the verge of losing $400 on an air conditioner. br>Recently updated- I've called Amazon three times and B&D three times, and each time they've asked me to send them my proof of purchase, which I promptly did. That was over a month ago, and I've called again since then. I have not received any calls or emails from them, and I am constantly being hung up on after long periods of waiting. This is a pain, and all I want is for this unit to be replaced.
