Years ago, the middle of the little metal tang on a boy recliner broke. I tried gluing it back together with some good old gorilla glue, but it wouldn't stay put for long. So for a long time, I've been relying on a half-finished product. When you pick it up, the handle pokes you a little. br>br>Then one day I had the thought, "I'm sure Amazon has a replacement part for this. " There weren't many options, but this one met my requirements. Now that the new handle is in place, I can easily recline. Advantages: br>br>
- It is real. For a chair that's at least 20 years old, this is a great find.
- It is appropriatebr>- It is cost effective. br>br>Cons:
- The threads were a little shabby. Before attempting to install, I had to really crank the set screw all the way through. Also visible on the set screw threads was a shiny spot where it pushed through the uneven/funk/whatever was preventing smooth threading. It was fine once I pushed it through. Tighten, back off, tighten some more, repeat, and the installation should go smoothly.
- There is a wood texture, but there is no attempt to replicate the original's fake wood coloring. But, of course, that will wear off in time. It's just a shade of brownbr>- Prepare your own hex wrench to remove the old one and replace it (in my case, the same size wrench).
I called LazyBoy and gave them all of my chair's warranty information, and they sent me the incorrect handle (for free, but with a $12 shipping charge) that was incompatible with my chair. I called them again, and they apologized profusely. After verifying all of the details about my broken chair, they sent me a replacement handle for free, but it was the wrong one again. br>br>All right, let's get started. This handle was purchased from Amazon. It arrived in two days, and it was, of course, the perfect fit for my chair. The handle was installed in less than a minute and has performed flawlessly with no signs of loosening. If this one looks similar to the one on your chair, it's a good buy because the quality is great and it fits perfectly.
I was concerned that this replacement handle wouldn't fit my chair because it has a square operating rod, but it does. shaped insert, but it fits and functions, with a few exceptions. br>br>First and foremost - Because this handle does not come with one, I hope you have a variety of hex wrenches on hand. With a replacement set screw in hand, I went to the hardware store, where I found the right size wrench for the set screw and hoped it would fit the existing screw inside the broken handle. br>br>It turned out to be true, but man - Those things are firmly fastened. I jammed the new handle in place and tried to tighten the new set screw after removing the old handle and discarding it. IKEA furniture proved to be up to the task. The only way I could get it to work was to start the set screw BEFORE attaching the handle to the chair rod, and then to torque it as tightly as I could. br>br>It's a little finicky and difficult to get in place, but once it's in place, it's in place for good. Just be careful not to misplace the hex wrench. Mine will be placed in a sandwich bag and stapled to the chair's underside. Just in case anything goes wrong.
This replacement handle is a perfect fit for our 22-year-old La-Z-Boy. Reclining chair for a boy It's got the same star-shaped fitting as the broken handle. You could probably get away with the less expensive square-shaped handle, but the star shape gives you the ability to position the handle almost exactly where you want it. It's a good replacement for a handle that I was expecting to be difficult to match. It includes the screw-in bolt you'll need to keep the handle in place. br>br> The 3/16" Allen key needed to tighten the bolt is not included.
The metal "star" fixture in the handle wasn't threaded all the way down, as some others have reported. As a result, the set screw used to secure the handle to my recliner could not be tightened. I returned this broken handle and ordered a new one from Amazon from a different vendor. Although the second handle appeared to be identical to the first, it was threaded correctly and installed with ease. I recommend ordering from a different supplier if you need a replacement handle. br>br>Also, the photos on Amazon did not match the handles - They had a deep red color to them. brown. Look at the image. If matching the color of the original handle is important to you, you'll have to look elsewhere.
This is an excellent product! The only issue I had, and the reason I gave it four stars, was that it did not come with its own hex key. It was a little difficult for me to match it in terms of size. Aside from that, it's exactly what I was looking for and it looks great!.
One of my handles on my La-Z-Boy has finally given up the ghost after 19 or 20 years. The boy's recliner had finally given up the ghost. This was a perfect fit replacement that was also reasonably priced. Granted, it's not name-brand, but that didn't bother me. The only complaint I have, and it's a minor one, is that the replacement lever's color is much darker than my original. The OEM lever appears to be made of wood. A tan color in the middle of the spectrum. Brown is the color of this replacement. Only if you pay attention and/or look at the handles on both sides at the same time will you notice it.
My recliner's wooden lever had finally snapped in half after many years of service. I tried gluing it, but it didn't work out. As a replacement, I eventually ordered this lever. It's the same weight as the original, but it's made of a much tougher plastic. It took seconds to put together and included all of the necessary components, including the set screw. I'm very happy with the product, and the price I paid was well worth it.
