On my metal bed frame, a number of the original casters began to break, and some of the plastic inserts bearing the bearing surface started to break. The plastic inserts on the stem of my caster had broken, so I had to purchase casters with The recommendations on Amazon provided me with the information I needed to purchase these casters. It was fair and it is fair to follow the recommendations. I did not have a problem with these casters, but with replacing them on my bed frame was a problem. It was the metal stem socket on the frame of the bed that was my challenge. It seems that the inside dimensions of the stem sockets on bed frames are not uniform. old plastic stem inserts that came with my bed frame have a smaller diameter at 15/32", whereas the ones I purchased are slightly larger. It took a scraper (a 1/2" lag bolt) to remove the broken stem inserts from the metal sockets on the existing casters. The inserts on the new casters have a diameter of 1/2" and could not be forced into the metal parts of the bed frame. Trying to force one of the new inserts into the socket damaged it. To address this issue, I had to increase the diameter of the metal socket. A 1/2" bit of drill was used to drill out the socket. There were some metal shards on the floor. As a result of drilling, the diameter of the socket appeared to have increased and any out of round issues were corrected. However, the insert did not By applying silicon grease to the metal socket and the new insert, I was able to make them fit. In addition to replacing the broken stem insert, I made the same modification to the other stem insert. Despite the many differences in styles, the new casters and the plastic inserts are remarkably similar in quality. Alternatively, the original caster wheels may have been weaker, but the new caster wheels may be more structurally sound, and the new inserts are made from better plastic that appears to have more tensile strength.
As I mentioned in the opening, I purchased a queen bed without castors, which in my opinion might be a budget cut, but I enjoy cleaning and vacuuming under the bed, and not being able to move it around in my bedroom was annoying. This product worked really well for me after I bought it on the internet. The frame came with a plastic cover over the stem, which you need to hammer into the metal foot. I love the strong, sturdy steel and the rolling wheel itself is hard plastic resin of some type. Lots of fun to use.
They were purchased to replace old ones on a king-size bed where the rollers (plastic) had cracked. It was the most difficult part of the job to remove the old bed and install the new one. A car jack makes it easy for me to lift the bed. When I lowered the jack, the old one slide out and I replaced it with the new one. I am done!.
I bought the wheels and lifters together. The wheels fit perfectly in my old steel bed frame. It is excellent how the wheels fit in the lifter. That being the case, it would have been easier to assemble if the bed had not already been assembled. In addition, I am extremely happy with the overall height of the bed. It is high enough to store totes under the bed, but is not too high that I feel I need to climb a mountain to get into it.
Rolling this bed trundle portion of a daybed was exactly what I was looking for. While I appreciate the overall value of the unit, I was aggravated to find out that the locking mechanism is so close to the floor that I have to keep pulling the unit out of the carpet each time we use it. There is no way for me to remove the rug since it covers the entire floor of the room, I can't do that. The flooring would have to be hard for these to work. It's hard to tell.
Although the plastic stem inserts appear to be exactly the same diameter as those I replaced, they appear to be slightly wider since trying as I might, I could not get them into the bed frame all the way. I tried hammering, then using a box cutter to trim the bottom, and pounding them in until they were solid enough to stay in a few hours. There is a chance they will come close, but not I won't send it back since it isn't worth $10 but I would not buy it There are questions regarding the quality of these products as they are made in China. However, they seem to be a well-made item otherwise.
I thought I would have to buy another frame when I found the wheels in my bedframe were damaged. After finding these bed casters, I felt relieved. While I had to wrap the stems that inserted into the sockets on the frame of the bed, these casters replaced the broken ones very well. Quite sturdy, indeed! It was very easy to upgrade to the new frame and I got to keep my old.
These castors are sturdy and I like the way they look. The pegs, however, did not slide in easy (they were too loose in the sockets of the bed frame). It took me about six layers of duct tape to wrap around each of the pegs, but they fit in snugly, which is.
