The liner can be seen extending up the inside of the bed frame, over the top, and down the outside edge in this photo. Is that how it's supposed to work?

That photo is of a softside liner, but because photographing a stabd up safety liner without a bladder installed is nearly impossible, it is meant to be a representation of the liner. Sorry, but if we showed the frame, some customers would expect the frame to come with it, and if we showed the liner itself, it would appear to be square black plastic with no definition. We've done our best: ) You did make a good catch, though; you were the first to notice.

Are the stand-up sides as thick as they appear in the photo, or does this liner wrap around and over the bed's wood frame?

This is a safety liner that stands up. The liner will (sort of) stand up in side of your bed on its own while you install the wsterbed bladder because it has cardboard on three sides. The only liners we have that will wrap around the rails are softside liners, which are too small to fit a hardside bladder.

Will this work on a mattress with a soft side?

Only for hard-side mattresses, I believe.

What is the width of the sides and how tall are they?

It is designed to be used with a 9" fill depth waterbed and has 8" tall sides.

If your mattress leaks, this liner will keep the water from getting out and causing damage to your home

This liner was far superior to the one I received when I first bought my waterbed in 1974; back then, they were nothing more than a thin layer of plastic. This new liner has a support that keeps it in place against the sides, making it much easier to install and keeping it in place longer than the old liner. I believe that if there was a leak from the mattress, this liner would keep the water from escaping.

It also fits perfectly. Allow it to air for at least a week before covering it with a mattress. It has a very pungent odor to it.

It's a lot more durable than the last one

If you want the side lining to be wrinkle-free and sag-free, this is a good option. The most durable liner I've ever used. Cheaper ones worked fine, and the bottom sheet will be less likely to wrinkle and sag as you tuck it in next to the frame. It's ideal for those of us who recall vexing flaws.
