The thread on mine was National Pipe Thread, which is 1/2 in in diameter. In terms of NPT, O measures differently. It sounds like you measured it as a 3/4, but I don't know how you'd know that. It's hard to say. The error could simply have been a mix-up.

Read 182 F when it is 182 in boiling water. I couldn't calibrate it using the reset screw since it had no effect on reading. A box or item does not have instructions or a label listing the country of origin. * Refunds will be provided for returned items.
This thermometer was purchased because I needed a thermometer that I could mount onto a cold smoker cabinet that I made. The temperature readings on this thermometer work perfectly for what I needed it to do, despite the fact that it was not designed to be used this way. I chose it over the overpriced digital thermometers that I considered alternately because it looked good and offered a good value. I can mount it on the side of my cold smoker because the probe length is perfect.
In order for it to sense water temperature in my pool, I needed a way to fit it in my pool skimmer lid. I am impressed with how well it is made and that it is waterproof. I also appreciated the seller's friendliness and ease of dealing with them.
Apart from that, I was happy with the product.
A few days later, I read a lot of negative reviews about this item. Leaving it on the counter was enough for me. After a few days, I checked it and it told me exactly what my thermostat was showing, so it can't be that As far as I am concerned, it is pretty effective.
I use this thermometer to make soap with great success. This stem is 6" in length, so it can reach the bottom of the jars easily. (My old eyes appreciate it) I thought it was accurate and easy to read.
The bung on the brew kettle was installed with Teflon tape. A couple brews will be needed to see how it stands up to the test.
This item was really enjoyed by my husband, who is a beer brewer. I was extremely impressed by how easy the gage was to use and how accurate it was!.
