Yes, I've used it for tempering egg yolks, meats, and candy/fudge, as well as any other task that requires a precise temperature reading.
Dear Customer, the product is manufactured in China, but each shipment is thoroughly inspected at the factory before being dispatched.
Good day, Customer! Please do not cook with the meat thermometer in the oven. A high temperature may cause the thermometer's plastic body to melt. Opening the oven and a small putout tray to check the temperature of the chicken or turkey is a good idea. br>br>Respectfully, br>Mira br>Smak Customer Service
Good day, Customer! br>The waterproof rating of the instant read meat thermometer is IP 65. It means that the kitchen food thermometer is protected from water spray and can be washed under running water. AVOID IT. For the past ten months, it has served me well. The screen now turns on and off at random, and the screen goes blank if the unit is near something hot, such as a grill or an oven. A three-year guarantee is included in THE PRODUCT LISTING. A YEAR WARRANTY IS PROVIDED, BUT PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A B. When you send an email to the address provided, you will discover that THEIR SERVICE EMAIL ADDRESS DOES NOT EXIST. If the manufacturer is paying attention, please contact me to replace the item, or I will continue to re-sell it. THIS REVIEW IS BEING POSTED SO THAT PEOPLE ARE AWARE.
The features are very nice. When the probe is pulled away from the frame, the thermometer turns on, and when it is closed and out of the way, it turns off. The display is large and easy to read. In the dark, it's very effective. The handle is large enough that I can extend the probe out over a hot BBQ grill without burning my hand. It appears to be well-made and constructed - rugged. It can even be used as an indoor thermometer because it reads in 1/10th degree increments.
You're aware of who I'm referring to. With the glasses, it's worn by my favorite celebrity chef/nerd. br>Well, for half the price, this thermometer does everything the old one did, plus it turns off when the probe is folded closed, which I really like. There are no batteries that have run out. The screen is large, clear, and precise. It has a magnet on the back to keep it closed, and it folds up small enough to fit into my jacket pocket.
2 degrees Celsius. The instruction sheet covers a very simple task. I'm going to tell my friends about this product.
I've been using the product without issue for the past six months. However, the probe pulled away from the body the last time I washed it, rendering the device useless. So why the four-star rating for a product with a flaw in its design? I emailed the company to explain the situation, and two days later, a new thermometer arrived in my mailbox. The company did provide me with this piece of advice. Hold the probe, not the unit's body, when cleaning it. As mine did, I suppose holding the body and wiping the probe out of the body can pull it out.
The ambient temperature on the first one I received was off by 20 degrees Fahrenheit before I even used it. I then double-checked the calibration for 32°F water and found it to be accurate. Then I double-checked the temperature for boiling water, which was perfectly accurate. I used it to cook steaks, and the temperatures were all over the place; it couldn't read the temperature for a medium steak (150 degrees Fahrenheit), and the readings jumped from 170 to 190 degrees Fahrenheit. I contacted Amazon, and they promptly sent me a replacement the next day. I had two of them now, so I decided to put them to the test by grilling thick pork chops while it was snowing outside and the temperature was 38 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature was 55 degrees Fahrenheit and 65 degrees Fahrenheit for both of them. I then proceeded to grill the chops, checking the internal temperature with two probes placed side by side in the chops. They both had erratic readings, with temperatures fluctuating by 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. They finally stabilized after about 20 seconds, and the distance between them was 20 feet. They measured 160 degrees Fahrenheit and 170 degrees Fahrenheit. The actual temperature was 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Finally, I believe this product was made with off-the-shelf components that had reached the end of their shelf life and were purchased on the cheap by this company. I have a suspicion because I am an electrical engineer who designs products in a manufacturing plant and have seen similar issues before. The bottom line is that you get what you pay for, and this product is a complete waste of money. Both of them were returned to Amazon by me.
This is an amazing thermometer. I used to have digital thermometers, but they were slow. This one does exactly what it says it will and provides an accurate temperature reading in less than two seconds. It's great for grilling because I don't have to leave my hand on the grill while I wait for a slower product to reach the true internal temperature.
It appears to work well and is simple to use. I don't have a way to verify the accuracy of the readings, but they appear to be consistent and in the ballpark. It's more than adequate for the needs of a home cook.
