I know how you feel because I also had the same issue! It is not possible to screw on or off the top part. Congratulations and good luck with everything you do!
You're right, they shouldn't be the same, but for your edification. The grinding materials used in salt and pepper grinders are different. Peppercorns, on the other hand, require stainless steel grinders because of their hardness, while salt crystals do not (but I may be mistaken). It takes peppercorns to wear out the mechanism of the pepper grinder, so it will only grind barely after a short time. Salt is ground on a different type of mechanism because the salt eats away at the metal. The differences between them will be apparent when you purchase a moderate to a high-end model The grinder should be of high quality. The only thing I can say is that these are cheap and seem to be made of the same material. They sure are cute but I don't know how long they will last!
There are salt and sugar in these GRINDERS that work with regular salt and pepper will not work with them A peppercorn
The only different between cardamom and black pepper is that I believe cardamom is softer in structure

Since I have been working really long hours at work, I haven't been able to find spices in the kitchen, and I greatly prefer freshly ground over pre-ground spices These are so light, so they are perfect to carry to work, camping, or on a trip. Knowing that the tops are pop-off and not screwed helps a lot. I took some time to figure it out since there were no instructions, but maybe I just needed time to figure it out. Even though I like the small size, I think they could be a little wider just to make it easier to grip and turn.
Using the grinder a third time resulted in a broken mechanism.
Once you have filled the grinder, you have to pull the top up to open it up. Once the grinder is full, you have to replace the top. *I don't give this product 5 stars, because I feel there could be issues with removing the top and replacing it to fill it (the bar that turns the grinder and attaches to the top feels a little flimsy and could break over time. A plastic bar appears to be attached to the handle). The smaller (short) part is also challenging to hold and grind, so the other major reason is their small size. It was difficult for me to hold the lower section of the grinder while also twisting the top at the same time. I would recommend getting a different product if you have arthritis or larger hands. The grinder would be easier to maneuver if it had even one inch more height. In spite of these things, this set seems to work ok for my needs and is convenient to store in my work desk.
The large grinders also intruded on my space, and I didn't want them there. The fact that they take up so little space and are so useful is the reason why I chose them.
Of the whole mustard seeds, cumin seeds, flax seeds, and cocoa nibs they have so far worked well. did not work on Cayenne, but that was to be.
The product is good, and it's small and lightweight as well. They do not quite close all the way, and that was the only thing preventing them from getting a star. There is a small gap between the lid and the rim, which makes the lids loose, wiggle and cause salt and pepper to leak out if not kept upright, making them ineffective as a portable and convenient container.
These have been used by restaurants for a long time. Since VID age, most stores have removed the salt and pepper packets from the table. The box is compact enough to fit in my crossbody bag, so I can take it wherever You should definitely check it out!.
There was no damage to the package. While they are somewhat tricky to get open and fill, when you manage to do that, they get easier. I find them to be handy for small hands because of the unusually small size. I would love to have these on trips. The problem is that my husband says they are too small for him to easily handle as he describes them as "too small for easy hand-cranking. ". A decent price point as well.
