Choosing a good kitchen colander With my retirement and my desire to cook every night, I decided it was time to get a good colander
4/5

I made this decision based on the poor performance of my old plastic colander from the drugstore, which perished after developing a crack, then splitting on the side. I read the reviews on this website and decided to order this model. What I wanted to achieve was *Stainless steel, not riveted or welded*large enough to drain a 16 oz box of spaghetti*durable enough not to deform or break easily
Until I read the reviews, I was not sure chose to use feet instead of a rim because, although a ring around the base might be sturdy and steady for the colander to stand on, it could also act as a place for boiling water to pool, causing the cook My burning spaghetti was the result of clumsiness, and I knew that I was the only person on this planet who could burn herself to make spaghetti. That's why there's a little black foot in the picture. Besides the colander sets, I examined the other items in the store. Colanders nest inside each other, do I need that? It's not really worth it. As far as I'm concerned, I don't drain rice because if it is cooked correctly, it does not All we will use this colander for is pasta and hard-boiled eggs. (If a cook purchases a set of colanders, she is also required to find a place to store them. Not at all. 2) I also looked at sizes, and the most frequently used sizes were 3 quarts and 5 quarts. My current colander is not the right size, and I had no idea how to measure it One of the plastic ones has broken. The number 3 quarts seemed quite large at first, but after thinking about it I realized that a whole box of cooked spaghetti, once drained, would not fit in a 3 quart saucepan, nor would it fit in a 3 quart colander either In the end, I ordered the 5 quart size rather than the 3 quart size. It is really nice to hear that As you can see in the attached photos, my old plastic hunk of junk stands next to this colander. The colander in question is actually a bit smaller than the previous one, but it does its job As I was preparing dinner, I took it out of the package, ran it through the dishwasher to sanitize it, and then made spaghetti with clam sauce. After running it through the dishwasher once again - It was fine to use the bottom rack - It can be put away once it's done. By using the brand name, the decision was made easier. I find OXO to be a good, mid-level brand, which is not too expensive and has reasonable reliability. I bought it because it was pricey, and that is why I didn't put a fifth star on it, but I am hopeful I won't have to get another one. I would buy this colander again based on what I have learned from one use and two washings.

It was disappointing to use this product after purchasing many other OXO products
3/5

I'm sure I'll purchase that brand again, but this is a dud. Rubber around the rim seems thin, the metal seems thin, the hole is rather sharp, and the rubber around the rim holds food product and is difficult to clean. I have tried to drain fruit, such as grapes, strawberries, etc. , and the fruit gets It's difficult to think of what could be used for it that would not damage due to the sharp areas around the holes. As I gave my book to the Goodwill, I felt guilty for doing so as I knew someone else might encounter the same issue. Colanders that work well are still hard to come by.

Keeping a metal ceramic coated colander clean by hand can be strenuous
4/5

I needed to replace my old one. My current colander had plastic spacers which deteriorated over time, and the handles were very wobbly as a result. I needed a replacement for those reasons. In our kitchen, we have a ceramic coated sink, and the colander I had sits on the metal ring of the sink, leaving a mark until the sink is cleaned with abrasive Furthermore, I wasn't fond of the fact that sometimes there was a sort of negative suction on the bottom stand, causing water to get stuck and clog the drain. A total of five groups of holes were grouped together in various parts of the colander, and you had to rotate it several times until the contents were fully drained. I was looking for a colander with a sturdy construction and lots of holes it drains super fast and its feet prevent it from leaving a mark in the sink. It has no handles, lots of holes, and it has plastic feet so it will never leave a mark. The only complaint I have is that when hand washing, the edges of the holes are not deburred enough, so it's like trying to wash a cheese grater against the grain (the sponge gets chewed up). Another minor thing I had expected the bag to be heavier even though this shouldn't be a concern. While I expected it to be lighter than my ceramic coated metal colander, it feels more like aluminum I'm not sure how you'd decide if it was steel versus aluminum without performing some sort of physical test. To be honest, I don't give a damn as long as it stays in good shape, does not tarnish, and does not dent easily. In general, I am happy with this product. I generally reserve my dishwasher for dishes and silverware, but I might use it for this and hope it doesn't tarnish it too much. * NOTE *UPDATE This dish has been through the dishwasher hundreds of times without causing any harm, so it is now put in the dishwasher every time it is used. Despite the fact that it comes out brand new, it is kind of annoying.

It's another great effort from Oxo! It is always a pleasure to work with OXO products, the brand is so reliable and durable, and this colander is no exception
5/5

When I looked at other products, they looked cheap and flimsy, and I wasn't sure if I wanted a mesh colander. Although it is not mesh, there are a lot of holes and I don't have an issue with water collecting on the bottom of the colander. I personally appreciate the fact that the colander handles are not bolted or welded on since one of them broke once while draining potatoes (but thank God I didn't break the handle). This thing is made of thick steel, so it feels solid. The outside is smooth as well. In comparison with other stainless steel products that are cheaper, this one does not rust in the dishwasher. Using the 5qt colander, I have removed a pot with a whole box of pasta, cleaned a head of lettuce, and emptied a pound of green beans without running out of space. I would recommend purchasing this product as it is of high quality and well worth the investment!.
