Questions & Answers

Please explain why this item requires special handling and is not available for shipment to Hawaii. ?

We've been getting an increasing number of products with the phrase "We don't ship to Hawaii" over the last year. "At the very least, Amazon, put the shipping warning up front so we don't have to find out during the checkout process. Despite the fact that this suggestion has been made numerous times, Amazon has yet to issue a warning.

where was it made?

Sorry, but there is no origin stamp on the opener. However, I've purchased a number of them over the years and find them to be extremely durable and effective can openers. (For sharpness, I should probably replace them much more frequently than I do.)

Do you have any spare blades or cutters?

I'm not sure what I'm saying. However, given how difficult it has been to find replacement parts due to the supply chain mess, I believe it would be more cost effective to simply replace it. Yes, it may seem absurd to "metal recycle" something that only requires a minor replacement, but wow! I was blown away by how easily it cut when I replaced mine only a few weeks ago. The replacement (a different brand because I was dissatisfied with the fact that this was my second swing-arm) It's amazing how many can openers have failed in the last five years. My new can opener is an OXO can opener that also doubles as a bottle opener. That's one of our favorites!

Have you ever been on the receiving end of a swingaway? I've had mine since 1968 and it still works fine. Do I need to rinse and dry it after each use?

Yes! My father gave me our "old" one 14 years ago because I couldn't find one that worked (I'm not sure what he uses now, but I'm thinking of getting him one for Christmas). It's still working perfectly! I recently purchased a second one because I have five children at home, four of whom will leave it lying around in various locations. It performs admirably. Just as well as the one who is almost 40 years old and probably as old as I am. br>I can't say enough good things about this brand of can opener. br>br>Also, this can opener works with both methods of opening cans. The underside of the rim (no sharp edge) or the top of the can.

Cutting wheel will be ruined quickly, so I'm giving it a star for speedy delivery and another for the BLUE color handle grips
3/5

Unfortunately, the cutting wheel will collide with the drive wheels' outer gear unless the handles are closed very carefully. When someone tries to put it in a drawer without carefully jiggling the handles to ensure the cutting wheel overlaps the drive gear side, it will quickly ruin the edge of the cutting wheel. The amount of play in the handles is probably why this happens, but it also allows me to jiggle them enough to get the cutter to go past the edge of the gear. look at the photos - With the handles closed together, the cutter should be positioned where the gear overlaps. The cutter is hitting the gear where the image shows them edge to edge, which is not how it should sit; the handles are not fully closed here, and if they were, the cutter would be damaged or the gear's teeth would be broken off. br>I'm not going to bother returning it because it was ordered to compare to the ezduzit that was also ordered at the same time; I recall Grandma's wall mount swingaway and Mother's portable. The quality was excellent, and they lasted a long time. I understand making junk so people have to replace it more frequently, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who wishes they could find a decent can opener and cheesegrater that didn't have to be replaced every year. sigh.

Can opener with a lot of strength
5/5

It's difficult to come across products that are well-made. Everything is low-cost, disposable, and barely usable. One of the exceptions is this can opener. It is well constructed and serves its purpose. Instead of plastic, it uses a metal turning crank. The cutter is screwed on rather than being press-fit, which causes it to fall off over time. After purchasing a few other brands that all failed quickly, this is the best can opener I could find.

Outstanding and awe-inspiring work! We got a good one that was free of flaws from the factory
5/5

This reminds me of the one my parents had when they were younger and it seemed to last forever. The wheel, however, must be kept clean. It will last far longer than anything else on the market if you wipe or rinse it after each use and dry it (no dishwasher required). These aren't fancy, but they are old school durable in the way that things used to be made and should be made to avoid littering the planet with disposable obsolescence garbage.

It's not the prettiest, but it gets the job done
5/5

After a while of battling with a different hand held, I decided to try a brand I was familiar with. Electrics irritate me because they take up space and, frankly, aren't very reliable. I grew up in a home with a swing-away cabinet. This hand held is lightweight, with a comfortable coated handle, a sharp cutting edge, and a simple mechanism. I'd love to have a built-in magnet to help lift cut lids, but Swingaway doesn't have that option. So, do I think this is something I'd recommend? YES. It is ideal for the task at hand.

Can opener of the highest quality
5/5

Swing- The best way to open a can is with a way. When I was a kid, my mother had one, and it was invincible. This is the third time I've had one, not because it broke, but because one went to the trailer and the other walked away (probably to a dorm room). This is the can opener for you if you're looking for one that won't let you down.

Colour: green rusting
3/5

My wife specifically requested a swing away can opener (in any color) similar to the ones her grandmothers still use today. She preferred the kind that could be taken with her and didn't have a big handle. In October 2020, we placed an order for a can opener and received it. She likes it, but it's starting to rust because she only hand washes it and hangs it to dry in the rack so no water gets stuck inside, and the inner parts of the can opener are rusted. The base of the blade, where it connects to the handle, is rusted. On the blade/gear side of the can opener, the grommet/bolt/hinge piece that connects the two halves is rusted. There are no signs of rust on the side of the can opener with the handle at this time. There are no longer any markings indicating that these are "Made in the USA. " Overall, the can opener is functional, and she has had no trouble using it, but the rust is difficult to overlook.

I'm amazed at how many negative reviews there are- The best can opener of all time
5/5

This can opener has been a great addition to my kitchen for the past eight months. My previous can opener was an off-brand tj Maxx can opener, and when it broke, I bought this one based solely on the number of positive reviews. It was a pleasant surprise the first time I used it; I couldn't tell if I was used to a low-quality can opener or if this one was simply better than the others! In any case, I'm happy. For Christmas, my mother requested a can opener, so I immediately went to my order history to place an order for her!.

This thing is terrible
3/5

It had one job, and it fails at that 80% of the time. I have never regretted a $12 purchase so much in my life. It had one job br>For many years, I used the same product under this brand. When it finally died, I went to get a new one. Most of the time, the new version fails to clamp in, leaving the can's lip exposed. br>Saving money is a smart thing to do. Anything else is available to buy.
