Questions & Answers

Is this something that will not rust? Is it safe to put in the dishwasher?

This opener has been in my possession for about three years, and I only use it once or twice a week. After opening a can of tuna, etc., I wash it in the dishwasher about half of the time. The hinge area began to rust about six months ago, and it is now nearly unusable due to its stiffness. However, until the rusting began, it was in excellent condition, with a smooth action and a comfortable grip. I'm pretty sure I'll get the same model next time. br>As of 4/Oct/14, the following changes have been made: After 5 months of light use, the following results have been obtained: same as above, but only washed in the dishwasher a few times - The hinge has started to rust again, and the action has become much stiffer. No, it is not rust-proof, and it does not appear to be dishwasher safe. It's not something I'm going to buy again.

Is it good for more than a year? Is it possible to do this without sacrificing sharpness? I'm looking for a can opener that will last me more than a couple of months! ?

Despite the fact that I haven't used it in 6 months, I use it a lot. It hasn't lost its acuity.

How Difficult Are Arthritic Hands?

My wife has some hand problems, and she thinks this is the best can opener she's ever used. We start at 8:00 a.m. and close at 10:00 10 cans per week, ranging in size from small to large, and the can opener is so quiet that you don't even notice it opening. I hope it serves you as well as it has served us.

Is it capable of opening a total of ten cans?

We have had no problems using it on the large Heinz tomato cans!

Finally, a well-written paragraph
5/5

This is a stainless steel can opener. Are you fed up with the shoddy service? Chinese-made can openers that falsely claim to be stainless steel but are actually electroplated. I'm thrilled to have found a can opener (this Oxo brand can opener) that is truly made of stainless steel. It is made of steel and is in excellent condition. designed. The cutting wheel and mating gears are manufactured to extremely tight tolerances. It works just as well as the old Swing-Open can opener. Ways that are made in the United States and have the added benefit of being stainless steel. Steel, and the handles are much better designed. Regarding older reviews claiming that this OXO can opener has rusted, I'm not sure if the product has been redesigned since those reviews or if those users exposed the OXO can opener to localized corrosion that occurs even in stainless steel when stainless steel is exposed to chlorides (as could happen if they cleaned the OXO can opener in the dishwasher with a chl cleaner). The fact that the OXO can opener I received is made of stainless steel rather than plating When you look at it, you can tell it's made of steel, as well as the fact that the handles are marked "stainless steel" (see photo). Looking at photos taken by other reviewers, on the other hand, I notice some significant differences: One of the reviewers' photos shows "OXO China" but no "stainless steel," whereas the OXO I received has no "China" and clearly reads "stainless steel" (as shown in the attached photo). Because I am a verified purchaser of this OXO can opener, I believe that another explanation for the discrepancy between the photographs shown by other reviewers is that they may have received a different product if they bought it from a different vendor.

The can is not completely cut around
3/5

What makes a good can opener so difficult to come by? After being dissatisfied with the last one I purchased, I spent $20 on this one. I read the positive reviews and decided it would be worthwhile to spend the money on one that actually worked. What a disappointment it is to open a brand new package only to discover that it will not cut a lid cleanly off. The cut is uneven, and it does not complete the cut. I have one uncut spot on every can, so I have to rip the lid off with my hands. The can now has a potentially lethal sharp edge. I'm fed up with having to return shoddy merchandise.

The most effective manual opener
5/5

This is the second time we've done an opener like this. The first one mysteriously stopped working after 7 or 8 years, so it's a little less durable, but I'm not convinced that one or more of the three teenagers didn't have anything to do with it. That said, the weight, torque, and ease with which this opener makes quick and nearly effortless work of opening any sized can makes it my favorite can opener of all time. If you have mild/moderate arthritis and want a manual opener, this is a great choice, but keep in mind that there are also several excellent electric openers on the market nowadays.

That can opener is a colossal waste of time! I type Oxo before the type of utensil whenever I need a kitchen tool
3/5

Oxo kitchen tongs and Oxo soup ladle Have you gotten the picture? I'm short on time and need something that works, and Oxo has an enviable brand reputation with me. When it comes to kitchen utensils, I don't go out of my way to find them. br>br>Since I bought it, this can opener has been a pain. It doesn't clean up well in the dishwasher, and it doesn't stay sharp (Amazon says I bought it in 2014). I don't open more than three cans per month, and my can opener is blunt and stained. I bought a $5 can opener at Publix, and it's much better. br>br>This is the second Oxo utensil that I have had a bad experience with. I'll go in with an open mind the next time.

It "beautifully" looks and costs, but that's all there is to it
3/5

It's served me well since I bought it on the spur of the moment (also because the one I had was getting dull and I needed a replacement but couldn't go to the store at the time due to pandemic lockdown!). br>With my old opener, the can is cut from the outside SIDE rim, and the cutout lid remains on top of the can until I remove it. br>This OXO one, on the other hand, cuts the can's inner edge: (1) The contents flood up to the cutout lid, and if the lid is dirty/dusty, the dirt/dust gets into the food; (2) I have to stop at a certain point before the cutter goes all the way around, or the cutout lid will fall into the can/food; and. . . return to the beginning: Dirt gets into the food, but (3) the cutout gets twisted/tilted a little and dips into the food even if I stop at exactly the right spot. again: Food is contaminated by dirt. GAH! br>Sorry, OXO, but this one didn't work out. br>br>10/24/2020 UPDATE - I'm getting less and less into this, and I'm getting more and more into it. I wish I could return this because the opener now mangles the cut out rim of the can, and because of the unevenness of the edge, the liquid inside the can will spill in a puddle and mix with the shredded edge and dust/dirt/paper label on the exterior of the can that gets twisted inward.

I was very disappointed when I found out that I had failed after only ten weeks
3/5

This is not a good opener to buy. After twenty years of service, our old OXO opener finally gave out. This replacement is nearly identical to the original, with the exception of the handles, which have been slightly redesigned. We were initially pleased with the quality but dissatisfied with the process of opening the package. In fact, it appeared to be past its prime. We had hoped for another twenty years of service, but alas, after ten weeks of operation and perhaps twenty cans opened, we have come to the conclusion that it is worse than useless. It was difficult to get it started at first, clamping onto the can. It appears to cause the can to tip over or move sideways. Hold both the can and the opener in your hands and firmly press down. Even so, because the opener easily slips off the can, you may need to repeat the process several times. The handles are appealing to us. The black knob on the door opener is one of our favorite features. What we don't like about the can-opening process is how inefficient and frustrating it is. Notice the poor quality of the ratchet wheel and how dull the cutter appears in the photos of the components that grasp and move the cutter forward.
