The heat level and timing of the toaster can be changed. I'm not sure if the time spent bathing will be comparable to the time spent toasting to the desired level. The toaster can toast to a variety of levels, but the time required varies.
There are no 1-slot machines. I bought this model because it's 1/2 wide. The slots are smaller than 1 inch wide. /4, and when you factor in the thickness of the wire rack that keeps the bread from touching the heater wires, you're left with less than 1-inch of space. My bagel was only 1/8 inch thick, and the toaster choked.
To avoid having extra wire lying around, I didn't make a precise measurement before winding the cord around some keepers in the base and leading it out through an underside slot. That's a really cool way to do it.

This toaster has only been in my possession for about a week, but it has performed admirably thus far. I started with setting 3 because that's what most toasters show as a medium brown, but it was too dark for me. The range of 2 to 2 1/2 is ideal. As the title suggests, it "looks nice" but it "does not toast evenly on both sides. " Temp[set at 5 takes 3 minutes to toast when done, and one side is darker than the other. I read another review that mentioned the same issue. Images are not deceiving!.
