Questions & Answers
It's a nasty situation. It isn't made of genuine cast iron. The top layer of the skin is peeled away. After the first 12 tortillas, the handle joint has worn away and metal shavings have formed.
I can't comment on the pressure issue, but the parchment paper rounds that came with it are of poor quality. If you switch to store-bought goods, you'll be able to save money. The sticking problem is no longer an issue since I purchased parchment.
Yes, it's cast, just like the base, and it's attached to the base with a bolt and nut.
No, there isn't any paint on it. As stated, it is made of seasoned cast iron. It appeals to me. Every time, you can count on perfect pressed tortillas.

This press has been in my possession for several months. This is fantastic! I'm going to give it a five-star rating. The press has withstood weekly use without rusting or sturdiness issues. I don't wash it very often because I use plastic to protect the press (and, by the way, I still think the parchment sheets aren't as good as my homemade solution), but it's never been a problem when I've had to get it wet. I'm not sure what other reviewers are referring to when they say the surface prep is significant before and after. This press is great despite the fact that I do nothing to it. ORIGINAL REVIEW (four stars): May 28, 2019: For the home baker, this is a good tortilla press. I've used it to make corn tortillas twice and flour tortillas once, and it feels reasonably sturdy, so hopefully it will last. The flour was a little thicker than I'd like, but the corn tortillas were perfect on both occasions. Instructions on how to use the press are included. Preventing rust by seasoning the surface - This is a must-do for me because I missed one spot and noticed a rusty deposit after only one wash. I liked that it came with parchment sheets at first, but they tend to slide around a lot, so I'll probably just cut the sides off a gallon zip-top bag from now on. top bag. br>br>My only issue is - When it arrived, the bolt that held the handle in place was missing. I can't say enough good things about the customer service; when I realized the bolt was missing, I contacted the seller, who went above and beyond to resolve the issue. They were quick to respond and quickly sent the replacement item. The company gets five out of five stars. I'm giving it four stars because I'm not sure how durable it will be in the long run. After I've had it for a while, I'll post an update.
Upon arrival, I examined the Press and was pleased with the purchase in general. br>br>As previously stated, the screw used to secure the top to bottom could be a lot better fitting and of higher quality, but EUREKA, after a little use, we realized that was part of the intentional design. If you close the lid as if it were on a hinge, your tortilla will not be flat, which will fail inspection. As a result of the loose connection, the lid can correctly flatten the masa. Yes, I seasoned the press, as I do with all cast iron. The iron appeared to be seasoned, but it didn't feel that way. In the world of cast iron, that doesn't count.
I wanted one that was already seasoned so I could use it right away when I bought it. This was advertised as seasoned, but when I got it, there was a crazy instructions sheet on the inside of the press with a list of things you needed to do before and after use that was CRAZY long, so I decided I didn't have the time.
This tortilla press made the job a whole lot easier and cleaner. My purchase has exceeded my expectations! This book comes highly recommended.
When I got my tortilla press, I was ecstatic. When I first opened my tortilla press, I discovered that it was broken! This was particularly aggravating because I was in the middle of making tortillas for my family! I contacted Amazon customer service, who was not sympathetic to my plight. They recommended that I take it to a repair shop and have holes drilled in it, after which they would reimburse me $10! I only gave it one star because I couldn't test it; I have no idea how well it works or how easy it is to clean; I have no idea what it's like because I can't use it! This product is flawed, as I discovered when I used my Casa tortilla press! Amazon customer service said they'd send me a new one, so I'll have to go through the hassle of returning the defective one and hoping that the new Uno Casa Tortilla Press isn't defective as well!.
For the previous 30 years, we had been using a comal that we had bought in Mexico. When it finally started to crack, we went on the hunt for a replacement, as well as a tortilla press. When we were searching, we came across this product that seemed to offer both and for the price seemed to be of decent quality, but we couldn't have been more wrong. br>After only a week of use, the comal was preheating on the stove when we heard a loud pop; upon closer inspection, we discovered the comal had cracked. Keep in mind that our previous comal took 30 years to show some cracks. br>br>Even with the crack, we continued to use it for another week until the nasty rust started to show up, rendering it completely useless. Our 30-year-old comal has yet to rust. br>br>I should also point out that we have yet to use the tortilla press, but given that it is made of the same material as the comal, I expect it to be of similar low quality. I also included a photo of the comal, which shows the crack near the handle, as well as rust that is beginning to bleed through. br>br>Spend your $50 elsewhere because this was a complete waste of our money.
This was my first time using a tortilla press, and I'm very pleased with the results. As you can see, they're in excellent shape and have been cooked to perfection. The press is very sturdy, and I expect it to last a long time.
It was a nice touch to add the parchment. I bought it to make gluten-free/keto wraps or tortillas, and it works great (for instructions on how to use any of the presses, go to YouTube). Clean-up is as simple as any cast-iron product. It will need to be kept rust-free with the use of oil and heat. If I were to buy it again, I'd go with a 10" for more size flexibility and to avoid it squishing out the side when trying to get the largest size possible. Time will tell, but after two weeks of use, I am very pleased with Uno Casa.
