Yes, we were able to use wax paper.
It will be thick if you use more dough and press it until it reaches the size of the tortilla press, but it will be thin if you use less dough and do the same. (Make sure the dough is sandwiched between the wax paper.)
(POTUS Voice) It was made in China.

Total Points of Sale. When pressing the first tortilla, the handle snapped, injuring my hand. It was not a heavy gauge tortilla.
The tortillas were pressed unevenly, thick on one side but thin on the other, and paper-thin on the other. The side closest to the lever's base is very thin. I bought it around Christmas and didn't use it until March, so it's out of the return window; otherwise, I'd return it.
The tortilla press was my first purchase. It appears that getting a thin tortilla without turning it around several times is a bit difficult. To make it easier to remove the tortilla, I line it with a split open ziplock bag. The tortilla can then be repositioned by 1/4 turn around the circle and pressed once more. I'm not sure if this is normal or a manufacturing defect, but the handle does not perfectly center on the pressure bar and instead hits it off to one side, which could explain why I have to reposition it. To make a uniform tortilla, turn it over. After each use, I return the press to its original box and remove the handle. Using a small pair of pliars that I keep in the box, I can easily remove the small nut/washer and handle it.
When it comes to tortillas, she's a pro.
Makes excellent empanada disks and other similar items.
Fantastic coverage! I wish I'd bought one a long time ago! It saves a lot of time compared to rolling out each tortilla by hand.
Tortillas, empanada dough, and pierogies all come out perfectly with this press.
It's perfect for him. He's said he won't buy store-bought tortillas anymore after using it several times. This press has made him extremely happy!.
