There are no plates to remove.
It has a non-stick coating that is very nice. Mine has been in my possession for nearly 18 years and is still in excellent condition. Metal utensils should not be used in the same way that teflon should not be used.
This item is extremely durable. Mine has been in regular use for years with two teenage boys.

UPDATE: The latch broke, so it was downgraded to 4 stars. Still functional, but it's inconvenient that a component broke so quickly that I now have to open and close it with an oven mitt. br>br>I've used this a couple of times now, and it's great! Larger tortillas work better than smaller tortillas, but they both taste great! My husband and I are both gluten intolerant, so we use corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas and have had no problems. It heats up quickly and cleans up quickly.
It quickly preheats and grills. However, the handle that you use to lift the lid came off the first time you used it. I'm still stumped as to how to solve the problem. 🙄.
The plastic clasp broke off the first time it was used, but it still works.
The red light will turn off and the green light will turn on, indicating that it is ready, according to the instructions. The red light, on the other hand, was never turned off. The green light had a glint to it. It left me perplexed. One of my quesadillas, on the other hand, turned out fantastically. One is more so than the other.
It's simple to set up and use, and it gets the job done well. Cleaning it can be a pain, but it's no more difficult than cleaning any other electric appliance. I wished I had purchased one with a larger diameter.
This maker was given to me by my mother's sister, and now I have it!.
The latch is why I gave it four stars. I used to have another brand with the same latch, but it was broken. I had hoped for something different this time. I'm cautious with it, but my grandchildren aren't. I'm hoping it lasts, but other than that, it's fantastic.
It was purchased as a Christmas present for my grandson, and he absolutely loves it because it is simple to use and ideal for making homemade quesadillas.
