It should only take a few minutes for it to reach the desired temperature. It's possible that your coil is broken.

The marshmallows aren't toasted as quickly as they could be

It's a fun idea to have everyone gather around the table and make s'mores. However, only one person can toast a marshmallow at a time due to a lack of space and the fact that toasting them takes longer than expected.
