It is plastic, not metal, which is used for the trays.
Neither a timer nor a clock are provided. There is only one thing missing from this dehydrator!
You can use it to help you fall asleep as it creates a nice background white noise. You cannot talk over it on the kitchen table between yourself and the other person if you want to set it there. My guess is that you did not go bonkers over your food dehydrator.
Dehydrators such as this one go only as high as 160°F. For chicken to be safe from bacteria, it must be brought to 165 degrees Fahrenheit. From USDA "Why does it pose a food safety concern to dry meat without first heating it to 160 °F before cutting it open?" The danger of dehydrating meat and poultry without first cooking them to a safe temperature is that the appliance will not heat the meat to 160 °F and poultry to 165 °F — temperatures at which bacteria are destroyed — before the dehydrating process takes place. In the face of heat, bacteria become more resistant to it after drying.

The reason I chose this product over all the other ones on amazon is that it is made in the United States. The statement is a complete fabrication. You can see on the product spec label that the lid is stamped with Made in China.
Dog treats were made using chicken feet, chicken necks, turkey necks, chicken hearts, and chicken gizzards dehydrated in it. The whole thing is ready in under four hours when I put it at 160 degrees. You can make your own treats for so much less than you can buy them.
Dehydrators can be expensive, so go for the best one. June was the month I bought my dehydrator. As I started to dry my herbs in August, I contacted the company for help because the herbs were not drying as quickly as they should. Although I did not get much satisfaction, I did find that the basil took more time. I did The process took at least 36 hours. Yesterday, I harvested my parsley, and I am looking into dehydrating In both cases (even at a higher temperature), it took 24 hours to dry completely. The product did not live up to the expectations I had. I would It would be returned if I had a chance but my dehydration did not begin until August so I strongly suggest you avoid this product.
Having purchased this in July, we had used it for some backpacking food a couple of times, but we We had a problem with the heater when we tried to make jerky. It lasted several years before, maybe 1000 hours or more, so maybe the quality of manufacture is inadequate. Previous models lasted several years, we probably ran them 1000+ hours.
In researching these, I spent a lot of time on the internet. In any case, when you've got over 3000 reviews and you're still getting 4 1/2 stars, you can't blame people for not believing you. I had some of the best jerky I've ever tasted! The spices were free to be used (because they are free to do so). The soy sauce and red wine vinegar have been added. Jerky purchased at a store isn't as good as homemade! Without a timer, I was in a bit of a panic. We now have cell phones with them. Fruit is now on the menu! The process of completing it is exciting for me. All of the house is filled with the aromas! If you're looking for anything else, look here. There is no better way to start the day!.
I dehydrate a lot of food for backpacking and camping trips and I found it be cheaper for me to make my own meals rather than purchase overpriced freeze dried meals. As this is a dehydrator and not a freeze drier, there is some food that does not rehydrate as quickly as it would if it was freeze dried, but this is so much cheaper, and I don't mind the extra crunch. As well as dehydrating fruit and vegetables for snacks and other items when they are about to go bad. It's just so handy to have this little thing around. In my search, I found a lot of dehydrators on the market, but in terms of price, I consider this to be one of the tops. This fan is pretty quiet when it is on, it is just This jug uses a small amount of power, is safe to run overnight, and comes with 5 trays so you can do a lot It's okay to mix onions and pineapple, but you should avoid mixing them together since the result will be pineapple with an onion taste. Dehydrating different things with it is a breeze because this apparatus comes with a number of inserts allowing you to dehydrate different shapes without stuff falling out. It also comes with a handy information booklet and seasoning packets in case you wish to dehydrate It was a great investment for me and I've gotten so much use out of it. It's great for people who are looking for ways to save money when packing food for travels, camping, or other activities. Also, it's a great idea for people who want dehydrated food to use for themselves or for their kids but don't want to spend a lot of money on food. You have to spend a little bit more time preparing than if you bought prepackaged food, but the cost is well worth it. You also know exactly what you are eating.
Used it for a single batch of jerky made with wet marinade (with 12 trays). My old one (still works after about 10 years) had a bottom fan but only heated to about 145 F. I got this one to replace that one. The goal was to kill any bacteria on the surface by heating the water higher. For the same amount of time (approximately 10 hours), this unit can dry a couple of pounds of jerky. There is only one complaint that I have the new trays are flimsy, and a couple of the grids have already cracked. There was a difference in quality and weight between the old and new trays (the same size).
My need for a dehydrator was met by this product. In my job, I work in the backcountry for a week at a time, carrying all of my food and camping gear with me. In order to achieve the lightest possible food, I obviously want to use less fat. As well, I love cooking delicious foods and am a bit of a snob when it comes to culinary standards. Not to mention that they can break the bank, I'm not a big fan of most of the readymade backpacking foods. My problems have all been solved by using this dehydrator. There's no easier way to dehydrate meals than with this. I can make a variety of meals at home, then dehydrate them (either whole or in parts) and take them to the field to cook. It is the chili I make most often that I find my favorite. Chili was piled on top of the fruit leather trays, and the result was awesome. I have never made trails food so delicious. I collect all the delicious liquid and then use this tray to dry it out, saving the flavors and helping me make some of the best trail food. My coworkers love me because of this.
