Yes! This method is excellent for removing the scales from salmon, and I use it on a regular basis. When using a pre-cut fillet, the only issue I've noticed is that getting all of the scales off the edge or corner can be difficult. It's still possible; it'll just take a little longer than the rest of the fish.
I tried it on yellow perch and it worked perfectly. Scales are very small, and there isn't much flying around.
Putting a wooden handle in the dishwasher is not a good idea. I'm also not sure if the metal is resistant to rust.
Scaling fish is never "no mess," but with small scaled fish, this scaler is simple to use and leaves little mess.

Sea bass, red snapper, salmon, halibut, and chowder are among the items on our current menu. All of our fish are delivered to us field dressed, but we handle everything else. It used to be that the company we bought the product from did a good job scaling the fish as well, but lately they've been getting worse about it, and using the back of a knife isn't the best way to do the job, aside from being bad for the knife! Well, I was able to use the scaler for the first time yesterday, and I have to say that I am quite impressed with the ease of use, ease of cleaning, and the great job it does taking the scales off! So far, I'm pleased with my purchase, and as long as it doesn't break in a week, I'm confident that I'll be satisfied for a long time; it appears to be sturdy, so I'm not concerned. Thank you so much for making such a wonderful product!! It is greatly appreciated and has become a regular part of my weekly routine!.
br>br>I was so wrong. br>br>I put it on salmon and it was delicious. Nothing was able to be extracted from the fish. Despite my best efforts, I am unable to scale the fish. The blades (teeth) have a dull appearance, similar to that of wood. There is no grip. I'm not sure how the 5-star rating is calculated. This tool is used by stars to scale their fish. It simply does not appeal to me. br>br>Things I likebr>- When compared to other lower-cost options, it appears to be one-of-a-kind and beautiful. scalers at a reasonable price
- Good controlbr>br>What could be betterbr>- It is ineffective unless the blades (teeth) are sharper and have good traction. br>br>Overall, I am extremely dissatisfied with this purchase and had to return it. This is a product that I do not recommend.
I'd never scaled a fish before, so I wanted to make sure I had the right tools and didn't waste any time. I'm glad I took the time to order this scaler because it makes quick work of an otherwise unpleasant task. In less than five minutes, I was able to scale four large fish without leaving any scales behind or tearing the flesh. Thanks to this unique tool, we will be able to enjoy more fresh fish in the future.
We've been catching a lot of perch, and scaling them has been a real pain. This scaler performs much better than I had anticipated. The scales come off quickly without tearing the skin and do not fly all over the place. I'm going to order another for when I'm not the only one cleaning and scaling fish in the family.
Five different models have been tested. This is by far the best because it's the only one with a handle that's far enough away from the fish to keep your knuckles from dragging across it. It's the quickest and most effective of everything I've tried so far.
So I finally got my hands on this one, and let me tell you, it's a breeze to use. It's actually a lot smaller than I expected, which is great for storage. A word of caution: you must be cautious when handling the edge of your fish. Scales in that area are easy to overlook.
This odd-looking (no hint as to its actual use) old Japanese tool works wonders at descaling fish without flying scales, without destroying the fish's skin or, more importantly, your own. Enjoy!.
This is what I use to scale fish. This product is capable of handling both large and small fish.
