Questions & Answers

When used on mower blades, how well does it work?

It is too thin for the belts. For just one blade to be sharp, you will have to wear out many belts. Sharpening anything other than a kitchen knife or scissors is not possible with this pocket knife sharpener. This sharpening belt has a width of about a quarter inch and is made about 10 knives sharpen with 2 medium and 2 fine belts when I was first using this machine. Although it works great, it isn't designed for things like shovels or lawn Honestly, I don't know if I would use it to sharpen a machete.

Does anyone know how this model differs from the ken onion edition that sells Can it offer nearly the same quality at $70 as it does at $100?

Greetings Stephanie. Is this tool capable of sharpening Japanese chef's knives that have 30° (15° per side) blade angles?

I have a large collection of Shun and Al Mar Japanese knives in my kitchen and pocket. The Work Sharp kit arrived yesterday, and all of my knives (35+) are now sharpened and polished with 6000 grit abrasive paper. It is easy to sharpen the 30deg edges due to the way the sharpening belt bends. In terms of perfect sharpening, I am done with the long difficult ritual of doing it the old-fashioned I have never been able to get my knives as sharp as they are with Work Sharp. I wish I had bought this 10 or 15 years ago since it is so easy and convenient to slide through the blades while watching TV or listening to NPR. Getting all the sharpening stones and tools out has always been a pain, but NOW IT IS EASIER! Thanks for reading and have a good day!

Sharpening gut hooks on hunting knives might be a good idea. Do you know how hard it is to sharpen this?

Use the 6000 belt, which is thinner in width, according to WorkSharp. On the standard model, we use the 6000 belt. Since the belt is thinner, it will reach into the inner hook, similar to the Ken Onion belt. On their website, they claim to have made a video for this.

Knives and tools are good for kitchen use, but knives for collections are not so good
3/5

You should know what it is good for and what it is not. I had to return my copy. I thought it was a good idea, but it wasn't good for me. - - - This is a good thing *Brief description here I think this is the fastest sharpener on the market! 1. *br. The edge is smooth and holds for a long time! The third point. A belt sharpener in your pocket! - - - There are some bad things about this There are knives from 2" to 15" in my collection, so I needed a sharpener that would work for me, but here is why this one didn't *Brief description here The air is full of fine metal dust, which enters the nose and mouth. If you want to do this outside, wear a mask. I had been breathing the fine metal dust (because I was not aware it existed), which I compared to I was having trouble breathing for a few days afterwards. It would have been great if there had been a warning. 1. *br. Especially if the blades are black coated, the fine metal dust gets on the guides and scratches them. In order to avoid this, you will need to clean the guides constantly. This might work as good as a kitchen knife, but I doubt it would work as well as a high quality collectible. I have scratches on some of my knives on the horizontal plane. The third point. For blades with short lengths, this product is not suitable. A part of the tip of my Spyderco Dragonfly has been ruined. This may be the case for any belt sharpener, but I wish there was an indicator of it as well. The conclusion is You might want to consider this if you need to sharpen long kitchen knives and would like to go above and beyond your regular sharpener. However, if you decide to use this for a knife collection, you need to be careful. Due to its greater controllability, I chose to go back to the old manual sharpening method. I take me 40 minutes to make a knife, whereas I can do it in one. I would recommend you sharpen it for two minutes, but again, this depends on what you plan to use.

do not have to buy the more expensive KO units on the market

the fence, but I decided not to waste money on this since it will meet all of my It doesn't take me very long to sharpen a knife, but I have There is no sharpener I have used better than this one. Try it with an old knife for practice, that old knife will be better than a brand new one very quickly if you watch a few videos online. After you figure out how to use it, it's one of the fastest, easiest sharpeners you will ever use. That electric grinder they call sharpener in a box is 10 times better. Fishing and hunting are my passions since I live in Michigan. I've manufactured over 80 knives from a starter pack of belts, a fish blade is now a bone slicer and I've made 4 axes, 3 hatchets, 9 lawnmower blades, and even Now my brothers are buying me new belts because I hooked up with them and sharpened their equipment. These are still working properly, and the old ones. On Amazon, you can purchase replacement belts that can be used to finely hone the blade of your The belt can be made of diamonds for ceramic knives. The axe and hatchet I have now have been razor sharp for 20 years, and I wish I had done this sooner. With a lawnmower, you can sharpen the blades without taking the lawnmower off the ground. It is amazing how well grass cuts with a sharp lawnmower blade. I had never imagined that it would have such an impact. The old butcher block kitchen knife set has a better edge now than the new one did a few years ago. As if it were butter, steak cuts easily. The base model works well, it is fast, and it does its job. I am a big fan of this model, and I don't think you need the variable speed unit. What about scissors, a hunting knife that cuts through deer skin like a scalpel, and so on. This makes sense to me. You don't need to look any further.

This is good for kitchen knives, and not so good for "tools"
3/5

Item was decent for the price. There was a slight error in the picture, but the belts displayed as wider than they were. A belt sander-like knife sharpener with a 2" wide belt caught my eye in a butcher shop in the '70s. The thing would sharpen a knife in no time, but I thought I was going to get something similar, though smaller. There is a lot less of it. The belts are no more than a single inch wide and are There is no pressure applied to the blade as you glide over the belts. When you apply any pressure to the knife, it will wear away the grit from your belt. The weight of the package is light. The package can be stored easily. It is easy to change the It is also great for cutting with kitchen knives and shears. With fillet knives, this works especially well. My knives all have a beautiful smooth edge left by the knife sharpener. It seems that I nearly wore out one set of medications. My pocket knife has a titanium blade, so I sharpened it with a light grit belt. You have to work hard to sharpen it. Despite being able to get it sharp with this machine, it is not easy to make it blade-like. As a butcher knife fan, I wouldn't use this knife for anything else larger than that. I bought the knife after reading reviews and reading the Amazon answers and questions. The answer to any question is yes for some people. Answering these questions and rating them without using the tool is something that some people do. Only suitable for use in the kitchen. There isn't a "Tool" quality sharpener on the market today. The sharpener is designed for use on kitchen knives and scissors. A good tool for shovels, mower blades, and machetes, but not very useful for other objects. There should be no blades with thick dull edges. In fact, I would give it a better rating if not for the "Tool" sharpener wording. However, it is not very useful as a tool sharpener for things like screwdrivers, chisels, and lawnmower blades. For the "Tools" section, invest in a good belt sander.

Not at all what I was expecting
3/5

sharpener is one of the most overrated products ever created. will never come to the perfect stop with such a poorly designed blade guide. If you are not applying the perfect amount of pressure, then you are dragging the blade across the plastic guide and dulling the knife. I had to keep pulling it out and trying again and again so it would hold. In spite of reading the instructions and trying to make it work, it won't work. In the blade guide, there is no movement. Because of the design, the knife will grind to the edge, or away from the edge, depending on which slot you put it in. The result is you have an edge on each side that is not consistent. Also, if you try to use a leather belt, it gets caught against the plastic and rubs against the whole.
