Questions & Answers

There was a YouTube video showing the sharpener in action. The design appears to have been tailored to right handed users only. Is it suitable for left-handed users?

The sharpener is perfect for sharpening almost anything for me who is left-handed. Turn the knife so that you are holding the base with your left hand and the knife in your right hand. I've tested it, and it

How should I obtain a razor-sharp edge? Do I still need to strop it? Is this sharpener capable of doing that on its own?

What does "razor sharp" mean to you depends on what you mean. I can sharpen a knife with this sharpener very easily and easily enough to shave hair off my forearm, even if I start with a very dull edge (although the sharpening process would require you to do a few repetitions from the beginning). In order to sharpen an edge even further, it might be necessary to use a sharpener that produces a narrower angle or a strop to finish it.

Would anyone be able to tell me where this sharpener was manufactured? Thank you kindly?

The markings on mine state this is a USA product

I need help! When I try to sharpen my Henkles Professional kitchen knives with this, it does not seem to work! It took me a good half hour to watch the video and read the instructions and attempt the tasks! ?

It is possible you did not spend long enough on an edged brown stone if the knives were really dull before you applied it. Starting from that point will be a good place to start. You can make a nice sharp edge by turning the brown stones into flats. I would have stopped there if I had kitchen knives. If the edge is slightly wavy, it often provides a benefit almost like a serrated edge when it comes to slicing through tomato skins, etc. Then use a steel to straighten the edge. It may also be necessary for you to hold the blade with a vertical orientation so the bevels are parallel.

A good deal of research has gone into this
5/5

Now that I have arrived, let's get going. The following is an overview of the product

Through the years, I have become more knowledgeable about knives (and some of their features). However, the sharpening of them was something I always emphasized. Because of my stress, I could not be bothered to purchase My budget is limited, so I didn't want to waste it. There are so many options and price ranges one could choose from. In my mind, there was no way I wanted to make the As such, I didn't make one for a while, I just kind of collected a new knife every time the other got dull. For a while, that was fine, but after 3 or 4 knives you have to stop and think through what you're doing. I did as I was instructed. It's kind of like a stone sharpener). *1) Be sharp in your work. It was easy for me to say no to this one. My primary sharpener needs to be an item that doesn't require the constant replacement of belts. I'll get one when I have more disposable income, but I want to have one that lasts for a long time. 2) Wicked edge. For one, I do not want to depend on electricity to sharpen a knife. The one on the right looks nice, but is very expensive. That's all there is to it. The pros are When the blade is in both directions, both sides can be done at the same time. This is something the spyderco sharpmaker also does. The Edge pro Apex 3). As well as being too expensive. I am aware of several knock-offs The "off" stands you can buy are for cheap stones, and then if you replace them with actual stones from Edge Pro, it's quite expensive. To have to assemble an expensive system was too much for me. It was great that it made it so easy to get a consistent edge, but it only sharpened one side at a time. It actually cost me too much for what it offered. ** 4) The Lansky Stones. Just as good as edge pro apex, but at a much more affordable price. have not read any reviews regarding the quality of the system, but I did read in some reviews that people had to do a bit of work to get it up and running. The difference between 40 bucks and 45 bucks is significant. After spending a total of $60 with spyderco, it was hard to justify not spending an additional $20 5) Diamond flat stones (and other DMT The price of these items turned out to be high as well. To avoid buying cheap stones, I did some research. Quality tools were of utmost importance to me. My estimates are that a set of two or three stones would cost about the same as this, and I would also need to master the art of sharpening on flat stones. As far as I can tell, it is possible, but it takes As an added bonus, it is comparable in price to the Sharpmaker. I picked the sharpmaker because of these reasons. easy to pick up, but it did provide me with the capability to keep a fairly consistent angle on the fly. Although I could adjust the angle, the amount I would like to adjust is not as much as I first anticipated. Stored in a wonderful kit, it is easy to take with you. A little longer and bigger than the box that a new phone comes in, but about the same size. I could order extra stones for a finer edge if I wanted. Was it as good as you thought? - - - A REVIEW OF SHARPMAKER I am overjoyed. This is the perfect outcome. It would be nice to have a nicer one to work on, like an endura 4 wave. Following my 5-minute sharpening, I can start on the blade that I really don't want to mess up, my endura 5. Following a 10-minute session with the first blade, I was able to sharpen my endura even more quickly than the first in less time. I proceeded to sharpen the third blade similarly. Next, I used a 4th knife. The results were similar. I just wanted to show how easy it is to pick up and how fast it is to grasp. The system is simple to master, and does not require a lot of previous experience. Is it able to get your knives as sharp as you need them to be? Many people say you need to spend a lot of money on ultra fine stones to get what they refer to as The whole thing is a waste of time! The tacticools should be left alone. Would the ultra fine stones sharpen my knife not so much more than the coarser ones? You are right. Do you think they were Not at all. You will get a really sharp edge from the fine stone in this system, sharp enough to cut paper easily. They simply use ultra fines so they'll be able to work more easily. If you don't buy the ultra fine stones, and I start a chat with you on the street, and ask if you bought them, you can show me your knife and lie, and say it, and I will The only person who can tell the difference is you. It is the thickness of the blade that matters more than the fineness of the stone. You have your money, you may do with it what you like.

Unless you force yourself to overthink it, this is a simple system
5/5

As a result, I read all the reviews, watched the video on line, and purchased the product. Since I have now sharpened about all the items possible, I am able to The product works very well and makes a real difference. All knives (both serrated and straight), scissors, awls, and gouges sharpen up successfully with the correct material. As far as I'm concerned, the first 10 knives were ok, but I was looking for a response to the one- I liked "What is it that you people are discussing?" ask the star people. There is no such thing as a complicated method for doing this. However, I read a little closer and it seems there are two different methodologies of argument. There are complaints about "tolerances" and possible slop in the first. Sharpeners like to use stones to sharpen for years already and they have sort of gained proficiency. There is the second group, which is those who have used various gadgets over the years and see this as just one more failure in the As a result, here is what I learned Even if you consider yourself proficient with a stone, or can create a sharp knife with some ease, you might be disappointed since there is not a great deal of innate skill needed to complete this game. There will be no apparent use for your talents. This is a simple matter of not overthinking it. To use the knife, you hold it vertically and pull it downward and across the rods (or out). As long as the knife is straight up and down, you will be fine. If the rods are 30 or 40 degrees, then you will be fine. all there is to I will return to the topic The person who has pulled a blade across a stone for years has developed a sense of control and the ability to maintain the same angle in all directions when pulling the blade. To master a skill like that requires a great deal of practice. It is generally not necessary to have that skill with this unit. During that time, the rods were at 30/40 degrees, and the knife was Consistency is the key to maintaining the right angle while holding the knife. The point where you hold a blade horizontally on a stone at a 30 degree angle is hard to determine. Glue your hands together right now, and draw another 30 degree angle - this will be your landmark. I bet you are off by 7 degrees or more. Draw a second one now Definitely off by a lot on that one, as well! You must be pretty close to perfect now that you have drawn a vertical line. The way it works is as follows. easier for us humans to tell the difference between up and down then between flat and horizontal. There was no more than a degree or two difference between your vertical line and mine. If you hold the knife just a bit off vertical, but you do this every time, you are fine. The blade on the left side is 2 degrees off vertical, and the blade on the right side is 1 degree off vertical - no problem. I have no problem with that. As you will see, the bevel is the same on both sides. Where you run into problems is when stroke 1 is 3 degrees off vertical, stroke 2 is 1 degree off vertical, stroke 3 is 4 degrees off perfect vertical to the right, and so on. Having a few days off may not be a big deal, as long as you do it consistently.
Here is where you just have to relax and let muscle memory do its thing. Take a seat, wait a minute, and then drag the knife through. It's not necessary to guide the knife to vertical as you just have to Drawing a straight line was an automatic process. You didn't have to think about it Similar to golf, knitting, bowling or measuring for cooking, this is a game that rewards accuracy. Knives can be passed through rods easily. There is no need for them to be precise. You don't have to make sure the rods fit so perfectly into their slots that they do not move at all (a little bit of play is fine to make sure the rods are placed properly) and you don't have to be certain that each and every stroke is It seems unlikely that I will be able to satisfy diehard Arkansas or Japanese stone sharpeners because I think the required level of skill they already possess is irrelevant. There might be no choice but to dumb down their techniques. It takes a certain amount of skill and experience to actually sharpen with a stone. I doubt any professional golfer enjoys playing with equipment that appears to be rookie in quality. The stone sharpener may have a problem with that. As a result, they devalue it since it is not needed. Then there is nothing wrong with it. I guess I'm right (and I'm wrong, because it really works) if you look at this as another gadget. Think of it as an electronic device. Play around with it and have fun. Having the attitude of "it is an easy thing to learn" makes it not so difficult to master. You are to give the following You can start with the brown rods if you want, and make sure you use the pointy end. Do about twenty strokes per side with the white stones. Now use the pointy edge of the white stones and do another twenty. You did it quickly, now go back and If you check the blade after the second round (don't do this after the first round since you haven't quite relaxed yet), you will notice that it is slightly extra sharp. Have you noticed that the blade is significantly sharper than it was I then got it to work. It is recommended that you do not attempt to sharpen the rods using the flat side until you are comfortable with the pointy ends. What's the deal? The rod surface area is much larger due to the need to contact the blade, and it WILL get difficult when you try to balance that vertical grip on the blade and contact the entire flat surface of the rod, and then it will get out of hand, and you will overcompensate. Concentrate and everything will go to crap, the blade will not sharpen, this thing is a piece of garbage, It's time to take a deep breath. You should relax. The sharp point of your knife will be so sharp that you will slice off your thumb just by looking at it. There is no need for a flat side.
