Questions & Answers

The sharpener I have been using is yellow and lanky. I am having trouble removing the fines that accumulate. Is there a specific technique for cleaning and maintaining the surface?

Ceramic stones should be cleaned with oil (WD40) while diamond stones should be cleaned with water

What if the Lansky system is not needed? Does this get it exactly as sharp as it needs to be?

In spite of its intended use with the system, it can be used without it possibly with a bit of effort. the blade sharp almost to the point of shaving.

The ultra fine hone has a grit of 40. Is there a hone that has a higher grit than that, or do I need to go straight ?

My knowledge of Lansky's stone line ends at 1000 grit, so I can't say whether or not they sell anything higher than that. After using a 1000 grit ultra fine wet strop, I go straight to a 1000 grit ultra fine dry strop. The mirror edge and sharp edge are quite nice for the price. I don't know whether it is perfect, but the poor guy gets it for quite a reasonable price.

I can see why, now that I have my own sharpener and know how to use it properly! If used properly, this sharpener system may not be the most advanced nor have the most precise capabilities, but it sure puts on a wicked edge to a blade. I have two issues with this item one with the kit it goes with and one with the item itself

1) the kit only contains three That would not be an issue except the finest stone included is the "fine" titled one, which is not capable of putting an exceptional edge on your My opinion is that this yellow super fine stone should also be included. 2) Only reason I dock a star is that the stone does not come with the metal bar it requires to be used. The price would literally be a penny per unit, and the convenience would allow them to not have to swap it over from one stone to another as they work through the grits.

All of a sudden, I feel like this is a necessity! Almost any type of sharpening need can be addressed with it, and for those of us who can't keep a steady angle on a traditional stone, it is the answer to our.

A Lansky setup is not complete without this tool, which sharpens knives to an extremely fine edge. It's really great to have her here! It is easy to use when you have an idea of what angle the knife should be at first. If needed, the Knife Sharpening page on the Wiki contains some basic definitions of knife angles. There are some examples below as well. This is what I found I find the 20 degree angle to be best for our Kitchen aid knives as well as my Case folder. The results are very impressive now with very little effort. In other words, the edge of the earth). of very sharp knives can be as low as 10 degrees (for an included angle of 20 degrees). The edge of a knife that requires a tough edge (such as a chop knife) may be sharpened at a 25° angle or higher. In addition to the composition of the stone, the composition of the blade also influences the sharpness of the blade (finer grains yield sharper blades), as do some metals (some metals take and retain As an example, West Asian kitchen knives tend to use steel that is softer and take an edge angle of 20–22°, while East Asian knives are made from steel that is usually harder and takes an edge angle of 15–18°, etc. Kitchen knives are usually between 52 and 60 centimeters wide in the Western style A material has a Rockwell hardness of 58, which is the measure of the relative hardness of the Stainless steel is combined with carbon, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, chromium and has a Rockwell scale hardness of 58, for instance, in an alloy manufactured by Wusthof. My sincere hope is that this will be helpful to someone just beginning. You should also bear in mind that this information was stolen on top of everything else. The web provides much more information, and it is free as well. Trial and error is really your best bet anyway, so make sure your junk knife is sharp and you have an old phone book handy so you can cut up the pages It is important to remember too that the sharper/finer the edge, the shorter it will remain sharp over time. Wishing you the best of luck and keeping your fingers and toes safe.

If you want to get a razor's edge on your knives, this is the place to do it

If you want to get a razor's edge on your knives, this is the place to do it. As I became more involved in cooking and tried to detach myself from the daily grind, I got more interested in super sharp knives (as my husband always has). It was exasperating attempting to bone a whole chicken with what I now consider a dull knife. As a gift for Father's Day, I gave my husband a Diamond Lansky set with a super sapphire hone, as well as an ultra fine one, as well as medium and fine serrated ones. In addition to the sapphire, he has been able to sharpen up our ridiculously dull knives to an extremely As a result, I have discovered we need better knives since these cheap ones do not hold an edge well. The Lansky hones are perfect for honing knives, and helps us keep them razor sharp. We did purchase one very good knife, and are happy to have them.

It's true that this stone isn't included in most It's a good idea to get this stone if you're buying a Lansky kit. You could also refer to it as 1000 grit, which is one step above fine stone. A fine polish can be applied to the edge of the knife by using this product. In most cases, this is the final step in sharpening. In addition, there is the Sapphire at 2000 grit, which is the highest level of stone. However, most people can get by with this fine of a stone. Here are the tips for tip You can buy this stone as an accessory if you buy the Lansky kit. The #2 tip If you purchase individual stones, you will not receive the guide rods. On the Lansky site, the stones are for sale at two bucks each. *Tip #3 Read and keep your eye out for opportunities! A little bit of an angle varies between the holes in each Lansky stone in relation to the honed The rod should be aligned with each stone, and they should be left By doing this, you will save time later when you reassemble the stones and rods.

A polish like this will not put a shine on an edge! I experienced an uneven level of hone, much like the majority

I don't know what the big deal is. My original order was returned to me, and the replacement I received was also defective. Do you think Amazon's stock is messed up because its inventory was stored improperly? Lansky will replace them under warranty after I made contact with them directly and informed them of the situation. You've done it! It is hoped that coming directly from Lansky the hones will be okay. It remains true despite Due to a QC issue, it was given 4 stars.
