The glass on this kettle appealed to me and made it look a little retro. Despite the fact that it DOES boil water, it achieved one star. A water kettle is made with plastic and its handle becomes too hot or difficult to use after the water has boiled. Its whistle mechanism is also made of plastic, and you have to remove it before pouring, and it is too hot while doing so. The process of boiling water is too complicated. When I owned one of these tea kettles before it had been re-finished, the handle was in excellent condition I didn't like the way it was designed. These are neat! I think the company that manufactures them- The makers of some teapots tried to save a few pennies by using a different type of plastic for their handle than for their lid. In order to use it for nasal irrigation, I needed it to boil distilled water for five minutes (to sterilize). Getting into another room isn't easy since it's Kettle whistle isn't loud enough. It is impossible to reach into the inside of the kettle to hand wash it, therefore I've put it in my dishwasher without issue. It leaves a residue on the inside glass when I boil filtered tap water (instead of distilled water) which is not acceptable Despite its durability, the glass is tinted. In contrast to the photo, the kettle I received has the curved handle, not the straight one. This is okay, however, because it keeps your hand and the plastic away from the heat of the glass and stove. The paint markings on this kettle are considerably less than those on my previous kettle.
