Questions & Answers

Is it possible to remove the plastic cover from the frothing nozzle and use the metal nozzle instead?

That's correct.

What is the tank's capacity?

The capacity is adequate, but it lacks froth. I gave up and gave it away after a long struggle.

How far away is the counter from the frothing nozzle's top? Is it possible to get a 20-ounce bottle? Is it okay if I put a frothing cup underneath it, or do I need a 12oz cup? Thank you very much. ?

It's only a few inches between them. Underneath it, you'll find both large and small frothing cups. The shape of the cup, I've discovered, has an impact on the frothing: A bulbous shape is preferable to a straight one. a four-sided shape And getting the milk frothed and heated takes some practice.

If I got this, it would be to replace a 30-year-old Krups machine that had finally given up the ghost. Is it true that all of the bad reviews are true?

Over a 222-year period, I owned two older model Krups steam espresso machines. I used them all the time and even brought them with me on vacation. I bought this "redesigned" model with the domed screw top when I needed to replace the previous one. After 22 years of making espresso with these small steam models, I was shocked and alarmed when the new machine began to spit, leak, and spew super-hot water. heated grounds in a six-story building a radius of ten feet I unplugged it, waited for it to cool down, then cleaned it up and tried again. The situation is identical. I now have a "Bella" steam espresso maker, which is a little less expensive than the old Krups and works just as well.

This is a good unit to try out
3/5

This isn't a long-term solution. When you first started experimenting with making espresso/cappuccino at home, this is what you'd get. It'll quickly become apparent that it's not up to the task of making a proper espresso cut or frothing milk. This is a steam espresso maker, so there isn't enough pressure to make espresso the way it should be made right away. To extract the flavor and aroma from a real cup of espresso, you'll need 8 bars of pressure, whereas steam only needs 2 bars, or about 28 psi. The image displayed on the product page is deceiving. You'll almost certainly never be able to make a cup of espresso with the same golden brown color and foam on top as this one. You'll need at least 68 bars of pressure to accomplish this. This is where the espresso machine with a pump (i. e. , the more expensive models) comes into play. All of this was discovered after I received the unit and began my research. br>br>However, you'll soon discover that the frothing isn't very effective. Due to the low pressure of a steam-based unit, the frothing will only spit out enough pressure (roughly 2 bars), which isn't enough to produce the THICK foam you'd want for a nice cup of Latte. Because of the high fat content in whole milk, it will come very close. You can forget about frothing with 2% or low fat milk because it will just come as warm milk. To achieve thick foam frothing, you will need a high-pressure pump-based unit. After only 3 weeks of use, I was on the lookout for a replacement. Don't get me wrong: at its current price, it's a good deal for someone looking to get into the game and try it out. However, you'll soon discover that you need to upgrade to something more capable, such as a pump-based unit. To replace it, I ordered an EC155 pump-based unit. With golden brown foamy espresso extract, the frothing is perfect no matter what type of milk is used.

A good manual espresso maker at a reasonable price
4/5

It's not quite as nice as the much older model, but it's a step forward! I like the product because it is compact and functional. Before it finally broke (the relief valve in the cap broke away), I had the much older model, which I preferred because it was even smaller, more rectangular (which I prefer), and had a power toggle switch. Because it turns power on/off and opens/closes a steam valve at the same time, the rotary switch on this newer unit is a little difficult to turn, and some people with weak finger grips may find it difficult to operate. Still, the machine's simplicity (it's a cheap, basic manual espresso maker) was exactly what I was looking for. Drips stop sooner with the new feature of turning off both the steam and the power, but the residual steam pressure in the boiler must be released before making another cup. This necessitates either turning the switch to the milk froth maker after it has cooled down or pulling the plug and venting so that the boiler does not come back on. Normally, I unplug and let the air out. Because I never froth milk, I don't believe the added sophistication is worth it.

They Just Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To Anymore
3/5

I can say that the Krups XP1000 still makes coffee a year later, but it hasn't lived up to my expectations; It hasn't served me nearly as well as the one I had for the previous 20 years. Krups' products appear to have been significantly reduced in price. The filter holder's handle is strewn about; It takes a long time to heat up; It continues to drip even after the coffee has been brewed. Also, the power knob is still a little tricky to turn on and off, and I don't like having to switch between drip and froth like it's supposed to. The only positive aspect is that the plastic piece that covers the frother is much easier to clean. As I previously stated, I adored my old Krups espresso machine. The Krups XP 1000, on the other hand, does not appear to be built to last.

It's perfectly acceptable
4/5

This is something I now use on a regular basis. br>I had a better brand, but I had to store it in a remote location.
Good: Silently and quickly. When you're finished, you can place your parts on the top platform. Because the top cap is so wide, it provides a lot of leverage when opening and closing the container. The pitcher is well-made, with a top that snaps into place and stays put while pouring coffee.
Bad: The slot on the coffee filter is not keyed. As a result, it includes a flimsy plastic retainer flip to keep the filter in place while dumping the extremely hot coffee grounds. Several times, the plastic flip has dislodged itself. It's likely that their designers never compared or thought about it. Because the frothing nozzel was too close to the stage, I gently bent it outwards to give myself more room to froth. br>Overall, it was a reasonable price for something that works. This type of machine appeals to me. After reading other reviews, I've added: br>br> All frothing nozzels clog with use, and you should clean the nozzel by blowing it clean with the vessel's final pressure. I had forgotten about it as well, and it had become clogged. It is, however, simple to clean. And buildup can be removed by filling the pitcher with white vinegre and propping it up so the nozzel is submerged. It's almost as if the buildup is falling off. br>br>Here's something to think about. Cafe Britt, a Costa Rican brand, is my go-to coffee. The mud is simply a result of the grind size, and all ground coffee contains some smaller particles. Rather than dumping your coffee into your cup, pour it. Fill the pitcher with the remaining mud. This isn't a problem unless you're a stickler for a fine grind. br>br>BTW, this machine makes excellent cafe con leche/cappuccino.

It's more convenient to pay around $50 every two to three years rather than over $1000 (or higher) for the truly excellent machines
5/5

Thi. Over the last ten years, I've owned several Krups. To begin with, mine only last about three months. They appear to lose energy after five years. The seals, we believe, are beginning to break down and lose their initial tightness, causing the steam to not come out as powerfully. Despite the fact that it had a bad reputation, I bought it. It's more convenient to pay around $50 every two to three years rather than over $1000 (or higher) for the truly excellent machines. This small machine is simple to operate; the steamer works well, the instructions are clear, and the espresso is delicious. The on/off switch and the location of the steamer were not a problem for me. The steamer's design makes it a little more difficult to place the steamer pitcher, but I simply tip it over and it fits. Overall, I think it's a good value for the money.
