On the wort side, 1/2 inch, and on the water side, 5/8 inch.
That's correct.
In about 10 minutes, I can cool 10 gallons from 170 degrees to 72 degrees Fahrenheit (directly into the fermenter). To accomplish this, I use the boil kettle's valve to reduce the flow. Because I'm on a well, by the end of a brew day, I'm pulling water from the ground. Very effective.
You can cool an infinite amount of water as long as the volume and temperature of the cool water supply are both appropriate. br>br>When I connect mine to city water, the temperature drops from 210 to 70 in about 5 minutes. Perhaps you don't need to spend this much money on a chiller; I brew 5 gallon batches and have far more than I require, despite the fact that I wouldn't have any other chiller. In a matter of minutes, you'll have a boiling water temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
It worked out a lot better than I expected.
I'm a novice when it comes to brewing at home. Today is the sixth and final batch. Initially, I purchased an immersion chiller, which took over an hour to cool two bottles. 5 gallons of boiling water to 70 gallons of finished product That's a lot of water, as well as a lot of time spent looking at it. I knew I needed to find a better solution, and this one certainly delivered. I used their riptide pump to return the water to my kettle. - 6 min. SIX! Wow! I moved the hose from the top of the kettle to my carboy once it had cooled, and I was finished in no time. This item is simply incredible. The water savings alone will pay for it in no time, not to mention the time I will save. I would strongly suggest it.
