You buy butane (I bought a can), insert it in the bottom, and fill it up; instructions are included. Love it.
It's a shame it's empty and there's no way to refill it. I assumed it was due to postal constraints, but I was able to find a suitable butane can (Zippo) on Amazon. As a result, there doesn't appear to be any compelling reason. That said, it works as it should, with a good, steady, and easily adjustable flame.
Yes, I use mine to light candles. smudging. I turn it down as low as it will go, otherwise it will blow out the candles. Use any type of smudging. Mine has never given me any problems. If I needed to, I would definitely buy another one! These items are useful in a variety of situations.
It's similar to a regular butane torch in terms of functionality.

sparking devices that use electricity They're only effective the first time. They don't follow through. I get out the butane, thinking to myself, "Wow, I must've used it up on that last batch of brûlée," but the butane can spits it all out onto my hand, and I figure I'll use it again later. That's all there is to it. br>br>That's all there is to it. I have no idea how much money I squandered on this, but it doesn't matter. br>br>I WAS USING EXPENSIVE AND PRECIOUS EGGS AND RUINED THE CREME BRLÉE I HAD BEEN PLANNING FOR *WEEKS*! br>br>Of course, I don't make creme brûlée more than once or twice a year, so it's long past returnable. Thank you, Amazon Seller, for destroying my dinner and any future dessert hopes. I hope you read this and feel embarrassed.
This is a fantastic little torch. br>I purchased it to use as a general-purpose torch. It turns on. It was easy to set up, the seats were comfortable and light. It's designed well, and I like it. The flame is simple to adjust. Overall - It's a fantastic asset to have. br>My wife enjoys making cream brulee and has borrowed it from me on several occasions. I may need to purchase another one for her cooking needs.
This is a fantastic torch. I use it in my painting to pop bubbles in paint pours and other things. It's simple to use and understand.
I attempted to fill it, but the base is designed in such a way that most butane canisters will not fit. So when I bought the correct canister, it sprayed liquid butane all over the place, causing burns on my hands! BUYING THIS PRODUCT IS A MISTAKE!.
This thing is dangerously close to catching fire! and will be thrown away immediately. I've been using it for a while and it works fine, but I've had to let the clicker/igniter go quickly on several occasions recently, causing the valve to slam shut. The flame will remain lit if this is not done. I felt the heat of the flame a couple of times when I forgot to listen for the missing flame/hiss before putting it down (making sure the "lock" switch wasn't interfering).
I got this torch because I wanted to try my hand at making crème brûlée, which I had never done before. The torching of the sugar on top was the part that concerned me the most. This torch was simple to use and, thanks to the lock switch, I felt it was extremely safe. But I had to have my boyfriend fill it with butane because I'm always afraid it'll blow up, but he did so without a hitch.
Until it reached two months, the product was in perfect working order. It began to leak gas and now will not hold butane for even one use. The gas is leaking, and you can hear it. After two months, I'll have to buy a new one.
When making glittered tumblers, I mostly use this torch to pop bubbles in epoxy resin. It was simple to fill with butane (it came empty) and it works flawlessly. I like how light it is and how sturdy the base is for keeping it upright on my work table. I'm very happy with my purchase because it hasn't failed to light. In addition, the price was significantly lower than that of others I looked into. It's something I'd strongly suggest.
