A precise cut can only be achieved by measuring Using scissors is the same thing as using one. A candle wick should not have a diameter less than 1/8". My suggestion is not to go lower than 1/4" in diameter. A general recommendation is usually made in such cases. If you use a shorter wick, you'll be drowned. As a result of it, I've had an incident.

Is this capable of cutting new wicks or do the old ones have to be burned out?

In both cases. To light the new wicks, I cut them down.

Wicks do not seem to be easily cut with this item. Sharp enough but not good enough.

My first impression of these was not what I expected, but I like the weight and feel of them in my hand. They are more sturdy than I thought they would be. I may buy another when I get the chance.

I love it! My candle wicks won't ever need to be cut with scissors again! I was unaware of this product and can't imagine ever going back! I like these because they catch the trim for easy cleanup, and they work really well
