I didn't care for this water filter, so I switched to Water Chef, which is much better. The filter replacement is a little pricey, but I'm much happier!
This isn't a gravity filter, so don't expect it to work. This filter works by forcing water through various chambers within the filter; I'm confident it will work regardless of how it's installed. That being said, I will not recommend this product; I've had it for about 6 months and every time I use it, rusty brown water comes out, followed by clear water, EVERY TIME. I contacted the company, and the customer service representative informed me that the same thing happens in the one she owns. They are aware of the problem, but they are unwilling to take action.
Heavy metals aren't rated in home filters because the manufacturers don't want to be sued if you have a lot of contamination that they can't completely remove. br>After three days of use, take a water sample and send it to a lab to see how many contaminants are still present.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Sulfur sediment, manganese, and iron can all be removed with activated carbon filters. Sulfur, iron, manganese, and other suspended materials in the water quickly clog the filter, which necessitates frequent maintenance and replacement. As a result, while it may reduce the amount of iron in the system, it will not completely eliminate it, necessitating more frequent filter changes.

This item does not appear to be genuine. We've been buying shower filters from Aquasauna for six years directly from their website; I bought this one from Amazon to save money on shipping and get it faster because we have Amazon Prime; however, since using this shower filter, our water has STINKED – it smells absolutely awful and stinks up the entire bathroom. Everything in the bathroom has been thoroughly cleaned, including our shower curtain. It's the water that's causing the problem. Every time we use it, it leaves a residue in our shower, similar to the little charcoal bits that are supposed to come out only after the first use. This item will be returned to me. br>br>.
I used AquaChek test strips to see if the Aquasana is truly effective at removing chlorine, and it is. br>br>From left to right, my test strips are as follows:
1. A baseline strip that hasn't been used yetbr>2. B = Before putting the filter in placebr>3. A1 = After filter 1 (after only a few minutes of running water through it)br>4. A2 = After filter 2 (I re-filtered after 10 minutes of running water) br>5. I did this one just to be sure, and the results were the same)br> br>6. D = Distilled water D = Distilled water D = Distilled water D = Distilled water D S = Spring waterbr>br>As can be seen on the A2 strip from the second and third boxes down from the top, the Aquasana effectively removes total and free chlorine while also increasing alkalinity (fifth box down). br>br>After showering with it for the first time, I noticed a noticeable difference in the softness of my hair, as well as being able to breathe easier due to fewer chlorine fumes.
br>It's been eight months, and we're still in love with this filter! br>Our black showerhead is as black as the day it was installed, with no mineral buildup. br>It does exactly what it says it will. br>br>First, a little backstory on why we bought this filter in the first place. When the government reduced the allowable levels of arsenic in drinking water, our private community well (150 hookups) association was forced to construct a treatment plant to remove the now-unacceptable arsenic levels. br>br>The low-interest state loan required us to start adding chlorine, which we did. br>br>The chlorine amounts added are so high that when my laundry is finished washing and I open the door, it smells like I added bleach! When I fill the dishpan, I have to take a step back because the chlorine makes my eyes burn and run, and when the powder room toilet is refilled, we have to close the door because of the overwhelming chlorine smell. br>br>After showering, our scalps were itchy and bright red. My hair was falling out at an alarming rate, and I needed to see a doctor. We both developed extremely dry skin as a result of our experiences. br>br>I was skeptical of the reviews for this filter, which claimed amazing results after just one use. What makes you think that? What are the possible consequences? As a result, we decided to try it. br>br>After a month, we've joined the ranks of those who say the Aquasana Premium Filter has produced excellent results. After my first shower, I noticed that my hair was unbelievably soft and tangle-free. It was as if I'd used a conditioner, but my hair was full of body rather than weighed down and lifeless as it would be if I'd used one. br>br>I'm overjoyed that my hairbrush isn't clogged with hair any longer! br>br>We purchased the unit without the showerhead and had it installed by my husband (which was brand new). My husband installed the shower plumbing to our height preferences (see photos) during our construction, so we don't have to worry about the showerhead being too high or too low. br>br>Comments on dark water (carbon): It lasts about an hour and a half. The time it takes for my water to heat up is 5 seconds. It's not a problem in the least. br>br>If the filter does not clog and is still effective after six months, I will give it a five-star rating.
This filter was purchased to remove trace amounts of chlorine (approximately 0. 1%) from my water. My tap water contains 5 parts per million (ppm). There isn't a difference that can be measured. I can't speak to the filter's ability to remove other contaminants, but it makes no difference in terms of reducing the small amount of chlorine in my water. I'll test water from other locations to see how it performs in various environments, and I'll adjust my rating accordingly.
The unit leaks, as you can see in the video, due to a design flaw - There isn't a single thing that can be done about it. It's my second unit, and both of them leaked in the same spot because there's no gasket between the unit housing and the pipe coupling; there's a space that's created ideally to allow the unit to be moved around, but it causes a leak.
