As I recall, I have been searching for a flat black curved shower rod based on springs, but I only found one. I didn't like the way the ends looked, and all other options were bronze (a color that can be hard to match). After deciding to get this model, I gave up on all the others and got black everywhere else. The reason I didn't want to screw into my new tile was in case anything changes in the future or if the rod breaks or I can't find another that fits the hole. I guess that's all well and good. Now that I've seen it in person, I can at least assure you that it is very securely mounted, screwed into studs after the tile. The finish is very durable. There are some scratches on the finish now after using a set of old rings that were in rough shape. However, the scratches only affect the sheen of the rings. A loss of paint does not occur. The curtain would not be noticeable if you weren't the one washing it. I think this is a very sturdy and well made product.
